Over 1,000,000,000 people are low on this nutrient

It’s a mineral you may have never even heard of,

But it helps eliminate fatigue, insulin resistance, and even gut inflammation.

SELENIUM - the benefits, science, and how to get enough:

Stress destroys thyroid function - Selenium corrects it.

◇ Increases active thyroid hormone (T3)
◇ Decreases inactive reverse T3

after stress.

T3 is the primary hormone responsible for making us feel energized, among countless other functions.

Selenium improves Hashimoto's thyroiditis by >50%.

At 200 mcg/d:

• Lowers TSH
• Cuts TPO antibodies

in 12 months

Selenium is a vital part of the antioxidant system, which is critical for maintaining thyroid health - especially autoimmune thyroid conditions.

Selenium helps convert the inactive T4 thyroid hormone into the active T3 - which raises metabolism.

A lack of selenium causes T4 to convert to reverse T3 - which lowers metabolism.

Most are just given T4 for hypothyroidism, but this makes things WORSE without selenium.

Selenium improves insulin resistance.

➔ Lowers blood sugar
➔ Drops insulin
➔ Reduces insulin resistance (HOMA-IR)
➔ Raises HDL
➔ Lowers CRP (inflammation)
➔ Raises glutathione

through its ability to bolster antioxidant status and thyroid hormones.

Selenium improves insulin resistance.

Another study confirmed that selenium at 200 mcg / day lowered:

⬨ Blood sugar
⬨ Insulin
⬨ Oxidative stress

Selenium markedly improves inflammatory bowel disease.

Selenium deficiency is common in IBD, but 200 μg / day:

☆ Improves symptoms + quality of life
☆ Induces remission
☆ Lowers inflammatory markers

through improving antioxidant status - often unregulated in IBD.

Selenium restores gut health, even after radiation.

To show how potent selenium can be as a gut restoring agent, it restored:

◇ Clinical signs of colitis
◇ Markers of gut inflammation
◇ Mitochondrial function

An angle that should be accounted for if you have gut issues.

Selenium rapidly lowers inflammation.

Primary inflammation driving factors, such as:

➔ CRP
➔ IL-6
➔ IL-1β
➔ NF-KB

are all suppressed with sufficient selenium.

Selenium even improves arthritis.

Depleted selenium containing antioxidants are one of the key hallmarks of this condition,

leading to degradation of the surrounding tissues.

Selenium supplementation can improve the pain and stiffness associated with it.

Low selenium increases death rate by 30-40%.

Higher levels of selenium lower the risk of:

◇ Death
◇ Diabetes
◇ Heart disease
◇ Cancer
◇ Cognitive deficits

and more.

Even if you intake enough, serum levels can be depleted quickly if you have excess oxidative stress.

Selenium deficit increases autism, ADHD.

High selenium levels for mothers are protective of having children develop these conditions.

Both conditions are associated with oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction - which selenium helps with.

Selenium supplementation improves depression, anxiety.

A few studies have confirmed that modest doses of selenium have mood enhancing properties.

Again, these conditions are often driven by mitochondrial dysfunction, which can be driven by a lack of selenium.

Fluoride destroys testosterone + sperm - selenium restores it.

Fluoride is one environmental toxin that can cause oxidative stress - a common mediator in infertility.

Selenium:

◆ Restores sperm quality
◆ Boosts testosterone
◆ Ups steroidogenic enzymes

even after fluoride.

SELENIUM IN FOODS:

The best source is brazil nuts, but this can vary quite a bit depending on soil quality.

Some more reliable sources are:

◈ Beef
◈ Egg yolks
◈ Organ meats
◈ Cheese
◈ Seafood
◈ Wheat

SUPPLEMENTING SELENIUM:

Most studies are done with 200 mcg of selenium daily, so if you are low then this would be the most I use.

Sodium selenite and selenomethionine are two common forms - both can get the job done.

This is the brand we use: lifegivingstore.com/selenium-liqui…

TESTING SELENIUM:

Many people have low dietary intakes of selenium,

but this actually underestimates how many are low on selenium,

since inflammation and other stressors can lower selenium stores.

Levels are often low in various inflammatory and chronic conditions.

Serum selenium is a good test for short term stores. If your serum selenium is low, I wouldn't panic but definitely would want to work on it.

RBC selenium is a test more indicative of long term storage and tissue levels. If your RBC selenium is low, raising selenium should be a top priority.
