Give me 3 mins, and I will make you better at Claude than 90% of people.
First up, delete these things from your claude:
1. Go to Claude → Account → “Instructions for Claude." Empty the box.
2. Claude left bar → Customize → Skills. Remove anything you uploaded about yourself.
3. Skills → Yours → Search “writing” → Turn off.
4. Claude Setting → Memory → Turn it off.
5. Any over-organised folder you maintain.
6. Subfolders inside the folder in folder (of course).
7. about-me .md you wrote in the past.
8. Anti-AI writing file (download the skill instead)
9. All the folder protocol in Claude instructions.
10. Forget the habit of choosing Chat-Cowork-Code
11. Any prompt library. You just need one.
12. 100 Projects with 100+ files, rules & constraints.
13. Any Claude skill written for old models.
14. Skills that overlap with other skills.
15. Delete global instructions. It ignores it anyway.
16. Habit of using "High" for grammar tasks.
17. Habit of switching on connectors when you don't need them, because "just in case."
18. Claude Plugin pack for one-off tasks.
19. Someone else's copy-pasted prompts.
Now keep or set up only these 6 things:
1. You only need this one prompt to start a chat
"Goal: [what you want, and what it's for] Context: [who it's for, what you already have, what good looks like] Before you start, restate in your own words what you think my goals are and the problem I'm trying to solve. If you need more context, ask me questions."
2. Ask for HTML (trust me).
Stop asking for a Word file, a PowerPoint or a PDF.
Try asking for HTML. Add this line to your prompt:
"Make it an HTML page."
3. Switch your massive folder to short memory
Open the Claude desktop app & select your old folder (mine was called CLAUDE COWORK) and copy a long prompt from this guide to turn into a short memory Claude can keep: ruben.substack.com/p/one
The prompt will start the process, then answer every question. You'll get the block to copy. Go to Memory → at the bottom, paste it → it will update your memory.
FYI: Delete this entire setup (again) in the coming 6 months. By then, we might have Claude-7 with the kind of speed Anthropic is releasing new models.
