Dragonji loves rabbits but some times when he sees them he forgets he is in his dragon form and he gets so excited that he huffs out a strong gust of ice breath and scares all the rabbits away. This makes Dragonji very sad. Foxxian happened upon such a scene as this by accident.

Foxxian was actually out hunting for some dinner when he saw the ice dragon and chirped with delight. He knew of the Lan dragons of course but he has never seen one up close! Then he noticed the rabbits at the dragons feet. They all cowered in fear. Foxxian was impressed!

Then he heard the dragon whine and put its ears back. Was the dragon…upset that the rabbits were scared? Silly dragon! He could just gobble them all up! Foxxian was about to go over and tell him that when he saw a tear slip from the dragons eye. Oh no. This wouldn’t do!

So Foxxian waited until the dragon had flown away and then he did something he never thought he would ever have to do…he talked to the rabbits. At first they were afraid but Foxxian used his natural charm to win them over, then he explained about the dragon.

Foxxian told the rabbits they did not need to be scared of the dragon. He told them the dragon would be a great friend and protector to them. Eventually, the rabbits agreed to try.

Foxxian returned to the field everyday and on the fourth day, the dragon came again. Foxxian was there to meet him and he chirped at the great dragon and swished his tails in a greeting. The dragon landed and cocked its head to the side.

Foxxian pushed one of the rabbits forward. It timidly approached the dragon and touched its nose to his snout. One by one each of the rabbits hopped up to the dragon and greeted him with a boop. Foxxian watched the dragon grow happier and happier as the rabbits all came to him.

After each of the rabbits had taken their turn to greet the dragon, Foxxian trooped forward and chirped a greeting. The great dragon bowed its head at him which Foxxian understood was a great mark of respect. He hid his snout with his paws in embarrassment.

Then the great dragon transformed, into a beautiful man. “I am Lan Zhan, I thank you for your kindness,” the man said with yet another bow. Foxxian quickly turned into his human form. “Please stop bowing!” He cried. “I didn’t do much, I just talked to the little fur balls.”

“May I have your name?” Lan Zhan asked.
“Wei Ying. I’m just a clanless wanderer.”

“You went against your natural predator instinct in order to aid me,” Lan Zhan said. “I would like to offer you my clans biggest accolade.”
“That really isn’t necessary!” Wei Ying squeaked.

Why was this Lan Zhan so handsome and charming? Wei Ying found he couldn’t refuse him. “Okay, okay. You can give it to me. What is it? Gold? A big fat diamond?”

Lan Zhan nodded. “My family wishes for me to marry, they have searched for a suitable match for me. I found I could not accept any of them. But I believe marriage to you could bring me the happiness they seek for me.”

Wei Ying was silent for a moment then he came towards Lan Zhan and put his arms around his neck with a soft sigh. “As I said, how is such a man to be refused?” he murmured before joining their lips.

Lan Zhan presented Wei Ying to his family that afternoon. There were mixed opinions on the match but one thing was made clear, Lan Zhan would not marry another.

And so the fox and the dragon were married and the rabbits gained two powerful protectors. They were brought to Cloud Recesses to live in comfort and safety. All of the dragons were pleased by their presence, especially the little ones.

One day Wei Ying came to the rabbits with something very special to show them. They all crowded around as Wei Ying pulled back the blanket in his arms and revealed a sleeping baby dragon with a tuft of red fur sprouting out of its head.

“One day little one, I will bring you here and tell you the story of how these rabbits helped your father and I fall in love,” Wei Ying told his sleeping son. The rabbits sniffed at the baby then hopped away. Wei Ying watched them play with a soft smile on his face.

Soon Lan Zhan appeared and sat down beside Wei Ying. “My love, you should be resting,” he gently scolded.
“Just a few more minutes then you can bundle us both back up into the safety of your chambers,” Wei Ying replied and received a content purring noise in response.

“I am glad I married you Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying said. “You have made me happy, just as you said you would.”
