Instantly Turbocharge Your Writing As a copywriter your focus...

As a copywriter your focus should be on selling, not writing.
That said, the stronger your writing, the better it'll sell.
So in this short thread, I share a quick and easy technique to give anything you write more impact.
// THREAD //
Remove the verb "to be" and all its forms wherever possible.
It's weak, passive, and can make your writing feel lifeless.
The "to be verbs":
- be
- is
- am
- are
- was
- were
- been
- being
Now let's look at a few ways you can remove it...
You can simply replace the verb with a stronger one.
For example:
"The food is delicious."
Switch "is" for a stronger verb:
"The food tastes delicious."
If you've used the passive voice, you can change the order of the sentence to make it active.
For example:
"The door was opened by the man."
Switch the order by moving the subject (the man) to the front:
"The man opened the door."
If you’re following "to be" with a verb ending in “-ing” you can use a different verb ending.
For example:
"The dog was growling."
With the “-ing” changed we get:
"The dog growled."
You can show your readers a scene, rather than tell them about it.
For example:
"The room was freezing."
Tells the reader, whereas:
"Icicles hung from the ceiling."
Shows them.
A fancy way of saying check if you've got any nouns you can convert to verbs.
For example:
"I was able to finish early."
Converting "finish" from the noun to the verb:
"I finished early."
To sum up...
You can do this by:
- Replacing it with a stronger verb.
- Switching the sentence order.
- Changing verb endings.
- Showing not telling.
- And converting nouns to verbs.
And your writing will be stronger for it.
