One simple way to improve your writing is to get your message across in as few words as possible.
And here are 7 ways you can do just that.

These are when you don't need to add a modifier as its meaning is already in the original word.
Examples:
Personal opinion > Opinion
True fact > Fact
End result > Result
These are more common than you might think, so keep an eye out for them.
Similarly, this is when you add a category that's not needed.
Category meaning the type of something, such as size or colour.
Examples:
Black in colour > Black
Small in size > Small
At an early time > Early
If they creep into your writing, kill 'em!
As it sounds, these are expressions that use more words than needed
Examples:
On a daily basis > Daily
For the reason that > Because
During the course of > During
A common error as many of us were taught to write like this, so make sure you hunt them out.
This is where you’ve repeated the same word or phrase in a single sentence or paragraph.
For example:
"Deleting careless repetitions is an easy way to improve your writing as careless repetitions suck the life out of your writing."
Repetition removed...
The more unusual or powerful the word, the more space you want to leave before repeating it (or consider not using it again).
Remove the word “that” anytime it doesn’t add anything to the sentence.
The cat that sat on the mat > The cat sat on the mat
He said that they were friends > He said they were friends
This is an easy way to punch up your writing.
Your sentences should start as strong as possible.
So remove any words not essential to the point it's making.
Examples:
The first point I want to make is > First
Last but not least > Finally
This also helps your writing feel less formal.
How a sentence ends is just as important, if not more so, because the pause at the end puts emphasis on the final word.
So you want to finish with a strong word.
Examples:
Is this good copy or not? > Is this good copy?
And...
In the first example, I chopped off the final two weak words.
In the second, I rearranged the sentence to place a stronger word at the end.
To sum up...
- Delete redundant categories.
- Shorten wordy expressions.
- Kill careless repetition.
- Eliminate unnecessary “thats”.
- Trim flabby sentence starts.
- And finish your sentences strong.
