Reg M-B Spotlight: Hard Trick Room!

In a world where one of the top meta teams “Big 6” has tailwind and 0 defensive mons Trick Room seems like an increasingly strong option!

But Hard TR has been kinda MIA — yet it still got 2 teams in the Top 32 GCF! Let’s talk about TR! (1/11)

Let’s start with some of the reasons why TR has fallen off in usage:

1. No Psychic Surge mons
2. A lot of the “fast offensive” mons have weirdly high bulk like Basculegion and Floette
3. No uber Bulky setters capable of setting TR twice like Porygon 2
4. No Ursaluna (2/11)
3
But that doesn’t mean TR isn’t strong! Want proof? Well NAIC was won by Zard Aero Farigiraf!

While not a Hard TR team, the TR mode on this team was a key part of its success and good matchup into “Big 6”

It also shows the power of Thunderbolt on Farigiraf (3/11)

Let’s talk about some of the reasons why I think Farigiraf Trick Room is so good right now:

1. Most teams have like 0 defensive backbone or maybe an Incin
2. A lot of the top Mons have 4x Weaknesses
3 Many traditionally “Slow Bulky Mons” like Gambit are run fast & frail (4/11)
5
4. There is a weird lack of Taunt
5. As the meta centralizes it allows TR teams to fit the techs it needs to beat the top meta teams

For example on point #5, Mawile is running Rock Slide for Zard and SD Play Rough Sucker Punch. That’s a set that only works in a Zardy meta(5/11)

I have heard many players say that “TR is the worst it’s been” — but I also know a lot of people who are trying to crack TR for worlds as a strong anti-meta pick

While we don’t have ~THE- TR team I’d like to take some time to talk about the 2 T32 GCFE teams +other options (6/11)

Let’s talk the 6 Quivern is using!

Vivillon is a cool supporting pick with Safety Goggles not in the game for fast sleep

Life Orb Inner Focus Mudsdale OHKOs Floette with Heavy Slam and has elite Ground Rock coverage

And Dark Glasses Incin packs a real punch! (7/11)

And let’s talk about the team @FireFallsMusic is using! The JOAT @JoeyPokeaim did a vid so go check that out!

Some stand out picks here include Scarf Final Gambit Staraptor, NVM Vanilluxe to destroy rain and Garchomp, and 2 powerful mega sweepers (8/11)

One of the strongest Trick Room Teams out there right now features VANILLUXE! This Mega Camerupt + Mega Blastoise Trick Room team adapted by @FireFallsMusic incredibly fun to use. Mega Camerupt is hella underrated and Vanilluxe crushes rain! Check out the vid with them below

I personally think that Mega Camerupt with Sheer Force Ancient Power + Earth Power + Heat Wave and Mega Blastoise with Water Spout + Aura Sphere + Dark Pulse are both insanely good sweepers

With Helping Hand Farigiraf and making good reads you can kinda clear most teams (9/11)

There are some other really good options too though!

Mega Mawile and Mega Scrafty both pack an insane punch. Scrafty adds Fake Out + Double Intim while Mawile gets Sucker Punch

Maushold + Malamar has been trending on high ladder, and Basc, Gambit, Zardy. Sylv work on TR (10/11)

In conclusion TR has a lot of really strong tools! It’s tricky to put them together correctly but there’s some potential for massive payoff!
