#taekookau when taehyung gets asked who he would date out of all of...

- fake dating kinda ?
- friendly jinkook competition and taehyung is just stuck in the middle
- angst with a happy ending
- also homophobia doesn’t exist in this world because i said so
“tada!” jungkook announces, proudly showing taehyung the food he made. “braised chicken, your favourite. what do you think? am i an awesome boyfriend or what?”
“really?” jungkook’s eyes light up.
he takes a bite from taehyung’s chicken. jin nods, chewing slowly.
jungkook tries a piece himself and groans. “fuck. you’re right.”
“your cooking is hard to top,” taehyung admits. “you should make us some spicy chicken feet. i’ve been craving it recently.”
taehyung laughs, blowing him an air kiss. “i like the sound of that.”
“wait!” jungkook interrupts, holding out his hands.
“we’re waiting for you to prove it,” jin says.
“i will!” jungkook says. “wait, i have an idea.”
“he’s so strange,” jin says.
“i know,” taehyung agrees.
clothes are strewn around the floor but neither pay any mind to the mess.
taehyung shakes his head. “i’m not mad.”
“i havent.”
“you have. don’t deny it.” when taehyung doesn’t respond, jungkook continues, “please, i want to make this right. we’ve been distant lately and i hate it.”
taehyung wrestles his hand out of jungkook’s grasp. he’s not in the mood for jungkook to be lovey dovey, especially when he knows that it’s all an act.
“please,” jungkook begs.
annoyance courses through taehyung. how can jungkook look like that—
“it’s just-“ taehyung sighs in frustration. he can’t believe he’s about to say this. after bottling up all his feelings, he’s finally reached his limit.
“i-“ jungkook starts, but taehyung cuts him off, not letting him speak.
“it’s all a fun little competition for you, isn’t it? leading me on like this?—
taehyung’s eyes water. he tries his hardest to not let the tears fall—that would ruin his makeup.
taehyung inhales sharply. the tears threaten to make an appearance again—and it’s getting harder to keep it in—but he swallows hard, forcing the pain down.
jungkook gazes at him softly, his eyes red. “you thought that all of this was for the bet?”
they’re interrupted by the sound of knocking. “taehyung, jungkook?” taehyung recognizes the familiar sound of jimin’s voice.
“we’re in here,” taehyung replies.
what a terrible end to their conversation. taehyung glances at jungkook resentfully. he wonders what the younger wanted to say before he got cut off.
but he doesn’t mention it—he pretends like nothing is wrong because that’s what’s best for their current situation.
taehyung is fully aware of this. he knows that, tonight, while they’re on stage, he has to show that him and jungkook are as close as they always are, and that they have to interact like normal.
as soon as the rest of the members arrive back at their home, jungkook heads straight for taehyung’s room.
the others glance at him worriedly. they knew something was up the second taehyung told them he was heading back early, but said nothing.
meanwhile, jungkook knocks on taehyung’s door. “tae, it’s jungkook. can we talk?” taehyung doesn’t respond, so he tries again.
again, no sound comes from the room. jungkook presses his ear against the door, trying to listen for any movement. completely silent.
slowly, he twists the doorknob. it’s not locked.
it’s almost two in the morning. where did he go?
it’s a quick five minute drive from their dorm, but jungkook can’t help but worry every second along the way. he knows that taehyung didn’t take a car—he must’ve walked.
due to the lack of traffic, he arrives quicker than he thought he would. he sees taehyung’s figure leaning against the railing, looking out into han river.
taehyung doesn’t turn to look at jungkook when he walks up to him.
“hyung,” jungkook says gently. taehyung still doesn’t look at him, continuing to gaze into the dark waters of the river. jungkook can tell that he was crying from the redness of his eyes.
he didn’t realize how cold he was until jungkook came, his mere presence warming up the older like a cozy fire.
“i wanted to. i wanted to so badly. i was scared—we’ve known each other for over a decade, hyung. and we’re not just friends but also work colleagues,” jungkook says.
for the first time tonight, taehyung turns to face jungkook. their eyes meet.
jungkook swallows hard. “i’m really, really sorry,” he says. “and i love you. to be honest, it’s a little strange falling for your best friend.“
“i love everything about you. and i could spend every second of my lifetime loving you and it still wouldn’t be enough.”
he can’t help but cry more. taehyung envelops the younger in a hug.
“i’m sorry. i shouldn’t be crying,” jungkook sniffles.
“it’s okay.” taehyung pats jungkook’s back soothingly.
“im really sorry,” jungkook mumbles.
they stand there with their arms around each other for a couple minutes as jungkook regains his composure.
“ah, i’m a mess,” jungkook says once they’ve parted.
“you kind of are,” taehyung teases, lightly pinching jungkook’s cheeks. “my boyfriend is so cute.”
“what?”
“they should be good at kissing.”
jungkook grins. “i’m a /great/ kisser,” he says cockily, forgetting about how he was just crying a couple minutes ago. “i’ll prove it if you don’t believe me.”
“feel free to do so.”
without hesitating, jungkook captures taehyung’s lips in a kiss.
jungkook has seen taehyung’s lips talk, smile, laugh, frown, and pout more times than he can count, and yet he could have never imagined how soft those same lips would feel on his own.
throughout his career, he’s dated and kissed many idols. but none of them have ever made him feel like /this/.
his best friend, his teammate, his crush, his whole world.
“i think you’ve proven your point,” taehyung says, laughing. “i’m cold. let’s go home.”
“okay,” jungkook agrees. he’s completely forgotten how cold it is outside. “let’s go.”
“out of all the bts members, who would you date?” jungkook says.
it’s been years since the interview where taehyung was asked that question—he had completely forgotten about it.
“tell me, tell me!”
taehyung grins playfully. “i would date jin-hyung,” he teases.
“that tickles,” taehyung whines, laughing as jungkook continues to kiss his face, nose, lips, and neck.
“tell me the truth, then, and i’ll stop!”
he puts his head on taehyung’s chest, inhaling the deep, comforting scent of his boyfriend. taehyung runs his fingers through jungkook’s soft hair.
“i know, love.”
