Paul Watkins: it wasn't the drugs and sex, it was the music that Charlie used to program us

Just a gross, sweaty, greasy orgy

I actually like how Watkins provides a lot of examples of Manson's "rap" as he remembers it. Just the bullshit he would say that hypnotized people

4
Manson's bio according to Watkins. Includes Manson's claim that he was introduced to Scientology by Lanier Rayner (or Ramer) at McNeil Island and became a theta clear in a matter of months

The Church of Scientology freaked out about the Manson connection and created a whole timeline to distance themselves from Ramer. They speculated that Ramer was a CIA op to discredit the church and that Manson was given LSD via MKULTRA mansonblog.com/2016_07_11_arc…
6
What happened to Manson at McNeil island? Was anything fishy going on up there? Well let's see, shall we

7
McNeil used prisoners for risky medical research, including giving people hepatitis as part of an army study. Precious little information on this research, which continued until 1976

8
Brief write-up on Manson's time there, including his immersion in Scientology and his claim that it helped him control people. Worked as a stagehand at the auditorium and spent hours doing yoga. Remembered by staff as "just weird"

9
It is clear now that Scientology was profoundly influenced by Crowley's Thelema teachings, by way of Jack Parsons. So Manson was channeling occult teachings several times removed

10
Crowley himself had been initiated into the Ordo Templi Orientis through a German Freemason named Theodor Reuss, and it was Crowley's Agape Lodge in California where Parsons was initiated. This was the midcentury California "marketplace of religions"
Media image
11
Of course this is the same family of Freemasonry-based, esoteric, midcentury American occult religions as AMORC, which was founded by Harvey Spencer Lewis, which had such a deep effect on Sirhan Sirhan
12
Crowley soon disowned "these goats" Parsons and Hubbard; Parsons soon disowned Hubbard; and the whole esoteric religion mutated into what eventually became the control system disguised as a religion that we call Scientology

13
Here is Parsons informing on communists at JPL and Cal Tech. And the Air Force reversing the decision to deny his security clearance despite stealing documents from Hughes Aircraft

14
In his FBI file, we see that Parsons removed the documents in hopes to gain employment in Israel, building rocketry systems of some kind archive.org/details/JohnPa…
15
And weirdly, Parsons was quite close with scientist Theodore von Karman- Sirhan worked as a gardener at Karman’s estate later. So we have this California confluence of rocketry, NASA, black magick, LSD, behavior modification, assassination and New Age religion
16
It seems to me that Scientology had a pretty formative effect on Manson and his desire to control people. As this article states, the National Security state and Scientology were two sides of the same coin - a dialectical social process

This is a really excellent article. Scientology is really just a mirror of the Cold War military-industrial hierarchy, with its attendant paranoias and secrecy

As Jeff Guinn notes, Manson's prison progress report from Sept. 1961 claims that because of Scientology, he was making progress for the first time in his life and he had finally gained insight into his problems. Seems like the beginning of some kind of transformation
19
And to return to the Ordo Templi Orientis - Ed Sanders says that at least 5 people claimed that Manson was involved with the OTO, namely Jean Brayton's Solar Lodge, with a location near the USC campus and another one in Blythe. These people drank the blood of animals
20
Sanders has a whole chapter describing the similarities between Manson's cult and the Brayton people, who weren't that far away from Barker Ranch. But Sanders echoes the idea that Manson's true awakening was at McNeil island
21
It was there that Manson experimented with post-hypnotic suggestions on the other prisoners through the headsets in every cell, in a prank that he pulled at 3 am one night; he learned the power of his musical performances; read psychiatric literature
22
But to me there's no clearer culprit than Jolly West, who claimed he was in the Bay Area to work at Stanford and the Palo Alto VA Hospital, but was really there because a CIA front had sent him to give LSD to hippies at the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic

Did West teach Manson how to do what he did?

24
This thread has gotten sloppy, but I think what ties these threads together is this: Manson, Hubbard, Parsons and Sirhan were products of the occult, the SoCal marketplace of religions, and the control methods of the national security state
25
And the Manson murders and the assassination of RFK were two major death knells for the counterculture and the political power of the left in America. So they were part of one larger phenomenon
26
Just want to add this: It's probable that Crowley worked for British intelligence during WWI, as he claimed he did archive.org/details/secret…
27
Richard Spence's argument here is important. There is no reason the reputations of people like Crowley or Sidney Reilly would prevent British intelligence from using them; similarly there's no reason the CIA/FBI wouldn't have used Manson for their purposes
