a/b/o

highschool wangxian except it's omega LWJ, the head boy of all-omega school, and alpha WWX, the head boy of all-alpha school, under the same parent institute. both the schools are located at a distance and there's rivalry between them, but also, rampant sexual tension...
2
It's a ridiculously conservative society. Unmated alphas and omegas are not allowed to interact unchaperoned. Which is also the reason the schools are separate. They are allowed to interact only three times a year (founder's day flag march, sports day, and interschool fests)
3
Discipline runs deep when it comes to conduct and regulation, and therefore, those events are heavily monitored as well. The students are not allowed to unnecessarily talk or look at each other. They are instructed to keep their heads down, perform the activities quietly.
4
so... it's not like wangxian are unaware of each other. LWJ has heard of the alpha head boy who's popular for his oratory skills and swimming skills. WWX is nearly tired of hearing about the pretty omega captain who plays numerous instruments and executes a mean handspring.
5
But the first time they *really* see each other is during the first year's flag march. They both are vice-captains then. By tradition, the alpha school proceeds first, recieves the omegas, from where they proceed together.

LWJ emerges. Their eyes meet. WWX grins. LWJ looks away.
6
ouch. cold.

They've never interacted before, partially coz of the discipline and partially due to the ego factor. But WWX has certainly heard just how arrogant the omega vicey is. And if there's one thing WWX cannot stand, it's the unnecessary attitude of pretty people.
7
So the rest of the march is spent ignoring each other, even though they're walking side by side.

They face each other again during lighting of the torch. LWJ is handed it first, who then has to pass it to WWX. Their eyes meet again. WWX grins again. This time, LWJ glares.
8
Passing of the flame also causes their hands to brush together. The touch combined with LWJ's glare unlocks some kind of itch in WWX. An irrational itch to annoy him, to ruffle the fuck out of him.

Therefore, while getting off the podium, WWX trips him.
9
But he also catches him before LWJ can stumble noticeably enough. "Aren't gymnasts supposed to have a good balance?" He mumbles under his breath, tone mocking and careless.

LWJ shoves his hand away from his waist and stalks off. WWX has never really cared, but he finds himself—
10
annoyed with the scent blocking rule at these events. Suddenly, he really really wants to know what LWJ smells like.

Which is perhaps why he agrees the next time Wen Qing asks him if he'd like to help her scale the walls of the omega hostel.
11
It's nothing new for WQ, she breaks this rule often for the sake of Mianmian whom she goes to spend time with. However, WWX always declines. So it's wholly a surprise when he agrees to go.

WQ has enough expertise of sneaking in that they don't get caught.
12
Once WQ has stormed off to MM's dormitory, WWX begins perusing through the nameplates on the doors. He doesn't find the one he's looking for on the ground floor.

Which means the pretty captain is somewhere on the first floor. Lucky for him, wwx is an alpha, an athletic one.
13
It doesn't take long for him to climb up to the balcony using the pipes.

The moment his foot sets down, a scent hits him, almost on the core of his head. It's extremely faint—sandalwood, but with a subtle edge to it—mild but also heady. Almost intoxicating.
14
But for some reason, however faint it is, it also overwhelms him.

For the scent to even be here, this far on the balcony, the person has to be pretty close, which means it belongs to the occupant of the room just immediate to the balcony.... the first room.
15
Breaking into the omega hostel is not only a severe offence but also a very ungentlemanly one. But WWX can't help it. He has to know whom the first room belongs to.

Ducking and hiding, he reaches the entrance feeling his way through the walls. Most of the lights are still on—
16
But the first room is doused in darkness. He cannot enter the gallery because someone will definitely spot him there, and he cannot peek into the room either cause whoever is inside is a ridiculously early sleeper. It's a little annoying. Who tf sleeps before ten?
17
With no other option, WWX inches his hand forward while still hidden behind the corner wall, and begins feeling the door to locate the nameplate of the first room. Finding that, very slowly, his fingers begin to trace the characters of the name.

L. A. N. W. A—
18
His face lights up with the widest grin before he's even finished tracing the entirety of the name.

A whistle blows, snapping him out.

In a distance, he catches a flurry of guards running towards the building. Before he can even react, the building's alarm goes off too.
19
WWX should run right now if he means to escape. But the alarm also wakes up the sleepyhead inside the room for the lights are quickly flicked on.

It's not only the most dangerous but also the most depraved thing WWX has ever done, but he finds himself peeking again.
20
It's the same face he remembers from the flag march, except it's not so strict anymore. It's rather soft, looking around in confusion. Nor are those pretty eyes glaring. They're blinking around as if that would help him make sense of the surroundings.
21
With one last look, WWX jumps off the balcony and runs. He is an alpha afterall, unlike the guards. WQ is already by the wall, panicking and waiting for him. She gives him a look full of questions, but for now, their priority is to escape.

It's a close call, but they manage.
22
WWX barely understands just what this pull is but he finds himself returning again. But alas, they soon find out that the security outside the hostel has been upped four times because of the incident. WQ blames him for it in frustration, and well, she's not wrong.
23
With sneaking in no longer an option, WWX tries for other ways. But LWJ has no social media, he never ever bunks class, and all his outings with friends are guardian approved or with his brother. He goes nowhere alone. It's a bit ridiculous if you ask WWX.
24
He doesn't let that get to him though. The Fiesta begins in a month and unlike the flag march, it's a 3-day event. WWX always looks forward to it for a lot of reasons. This time, one of the reasons is the pretty omega captain.
25
[ uhh. listen, as ridiculous as the setting seems, believe me, this was my school life at an all-girls convent. The thing is, it makes sense to me coz I can picture it. Let me know if y'all can too. It'll take just 1-2 updates to finish.]
26
When LWJ was assigned the discipline duty for debate contest, he had no idea he'll have to stand at the back of the auditorium and watch the annoying alpha vice captain take his opponents apart, one brutal argument at a time, with a thoroughly insolent grin on his face.
27
He doesn't know if it's his own general contempt for alphas or WWX's newfound penchant to smile at him, that has him resisting an urge to wipe that smugness off his face.

LWJ has already been up against that stupid wide grin 3 times today and hasn't appreciated even one of them.
28
Omega school being this year's host of the interschool fest, he had to be on the welcome committee. Which means he had to escort the alphas to their designated rooms and help them set up their equipments.

Which also mean he had to work with WWX for a major portion of the day.
29
Never before has being an office bearer felt this unappealing to him.

And never before has he appreciated the stern discipline so much because he's certain it's only because of the multiple teachers monitoring them that WWX kept himself limited to smiling and not talking.
30
A loud round of applause jolts him out of his mind. On the stage, WWX is grinning once more, undoubtedly having obliterated the last interjector as well.

It's painfully obvious who's taking the debate trophy home today. However annoying WWX is, he gets the credit where it's due.
31
It's easy to debate for what you morally believe in, and equally hard to defend a motion you personally stand against. The topic for today's extempore was ‘Nuclear Weapons: A boon or a bane’ and LWJ is certain WWX was deliberately put for-the-motion, given his credentials.
32
And yet, there he is, defending nuclear arms with an easy smile and a deadly flair.

His score would be hard to manipulate. Because the scores will be manipulated if it turns out the omegas are losing. LWJ doesn't understand just what politics goes on in these events—
33
but it's almost like a tradition that the winning shield is always lifted by the host school. But WWX isn't losing today. That's just as certain as well.

The awed smiles on the audience's faces, especially the omegas aren't unwarranted, even if a bit embarrassing.
34
LWJ would have maybe found WWX enticing too had the annoying boy not winked at him, quite shamelessly so, when LWJ helped him move the synthesizer.

The debate finally ends with the announcement for the refreshments break and LWJ finally sighs with relief.
35
Thankfully, his refreshments duty is with the kids, the children's fete being the only delightful event on the first day of Fiesta. Unlike these overly posturing alphas, children are easy to deal with.

His mood automatically brightens as LWJ steps out of the auditorium.
36
"Zhan-gege!" Jingyi's tiny but shrill voice greets him even before he enters the field. "Icecream first, please."

LWJ gives him a smile. Jingyi's excitement is hard to contain on a regular day, let alone on a day that's clearly a party for him. "Alright."
37
Mianmian joins him soon enough, along with XXC and Qin Su, all four of them responsible for getting the kids their treats before the seniors are allowed to enter the ground. All omegas because apparently, alphas are neither good with kids, nor do they need to learn.
38
"Why icecream first?" Another 5 year old quips behind Jingyi. Zizhen, with a scrunched nose. "I want egg rolls. Sizhui wants them too."

Sizhui sneaks a glance at Jingyi. "It's okay, we can have them later."

"Hear that?" Jingyi sneers. "Now you keep your mouth shut."
39
LWJ stifles a sigh. As much as he hopes Jingyi doesn't present as an alpha when he turns 13, he had a feeling he's going to be wrong.

"Jingyi." He says, with the slightest admonishment. "What have we talked about being gentle with others?"

Jingyi flusters immediately.
40
"But I want icecream," he mumbles looking at his shoes.

"That is fine, I will arrange that," LWJ tells him. "But don't you think you need to do something first?"

They've been through this enough times that Jingyi doesn't need to be told twice that he has to apologize.
41
Ultimately, LWJ divides the kids into two groups and gestures then to arrange themselves into two files, one to be led by MM and XXC and another to go with him and QS.

"Okay everyone," MM claps her hands. "Take your positions, we're playing train again today."
42
All the children place their right hands on the shoulder of the one infront. LWJ smiles as he takes Jingyi's hand and begins leading that line of kids towards the icecream stall.

"They listen to you so well," QS comments.

"That's because they're not scared of us," he says.
43
They go round the field, visiting all the stalls one by one, the kids readying up their tiny picnic baskets with whatever catches their fancy. Once done, they're all led to the tent set up especially for them to enjoy their day.

It doesn't matter anymore who wanted what first.
44
Jingyi happily shares his basket with his friends, as do the others, happily flaunting their spoils.

LWJ stands on the side, simply watching them fondly until he feels a tug on his trousers. Sizhui has his hand raised from where he's sitting on the ground, offering him a candy.
45
LWJ is amused to see it's his favourite mint and coconut candy, and he wonders if it's a coincidence or if Sizhui knows. Before he can accept or deny, another voice quips from behind him.

"Can I have one too?"

LWJ turns at the same time Sizhui squeals, "Xian-gege!"
46
And just like that, LWJ's frown turns into a glare. Alphas aren't allowed in here, so WWX has no reason to be here.

WWX, for his part, gives him a small smile and says, "Hey!"

LWJ is quite done with that smile and the way it makes him feel off balance. "Why are you here?"
47
WWX raises an eyebrow, perhaps at his biting tone. "Uh well, uhm I—" he looks around as if he himself doesn't know why he's here—"I came to say hi to A-Yuan."

Behind LWJ, Sizhui waves at WWX. Seeing him, Zizhen and Jingyi do too. WWX waves back, smiling once again.
48
"Please leave," LWJ keeps his voice as controlled as he can. WWX still looks startled, widening his eyes.

"I'm not doing anything," WWX says with irritation.

"It does not matter," LWJ responds. "You are not allowed here so please leave."

WWX presses his jaws hard.
49
There you are, LWJ thinks, almost mocking. A typical alpha, furious just because you got told no for something.

"You're being unnecessarily rude, don't you think?" WWX says, eyes shining.

"I'm merely following the rules," he answers.

WWX lets out a hollowed laugh.
50
"No one cares about your ridiculous rules."

"Ofcourse you dont," LWJ nearly snaps. "It's not you who will get dragged on being seen here."

WWX blinks, taking an instinctive step back. "I—I didn't mean that, I—" he's frowning hard, as if trying to figure something.
51
When his gaze clears, it's hard once again. "What do you mean dragged? I'm not putting you in any compromising position here. I wasn't even talking to you, I was talking to the kids."

LWJ looks away. He's not above admitting that he may be overreacting, perhaps over nothing.
52
But the last time an omega was seen talking to an alpha where they weren't allowed, the character assassination that followed was wholly one-sided. WWX can choose to pretend otherwise because he can afford it. LWJ cannot.

"All I'm asking you is to leave," he repeats.
53
"If you want to talk to the kids, do it after the school hours are over, outside the premises."

WWX doesn't speak for a long moment. When LWJ looks back, he finds him staring scornfully, not unlike the condescending look LWJ is used to from people who can't stand him.
54
"It'll do you good to get down whatever high horse you're riding on," WWX grits out.

That too is not something unusual to hear for an omega who acts out by social standards.

"You are in no position to tell me how I should or shouldn't act," LWJ say, quiet but equally hostile.
55
WWX opens his mouth, then closes it. Moments later, he lets out a bitter laugh. "You are so not worth it," he throws back before storming away.

LWJ stands exactly where he is for a long time, quietly watching the kids have fun, and pretending WWX's words didn't prick him.
