married wangxian discussing another baby & at one point, WWX teases, "no way! last time you went into labour, you kept grumbling "it's all your fault" as if I made A-Yuan alone."
unbeknownst to them, their 4 year old is curiously overhearing...
LWJ gives it adequate thought, like he does with all of A-Yuan's questions and says, "Sometimes, fault means a mistake."
LWJ, on the other hand, freezes with the spatula over the pan. He slowly turns to his son. "A-Yuan, what did you say?"
Half his soul wisps out of LWJ's body. He cannot comprehend— did someone say something to A-Yuan?
Abruptly, the pan is removed and stove turned off, breakfast be damned. He perches A-Yuan on the table and takes a seat infront of him so they're face to face.
"A-Yuan," he asks softly. "Did someone say that to you?"
LWJ is trying to so hard to make sense of it that correcting A-Yuan's tomorrow to yesterday seems highly insignificant. When the recollection finally clicks, his remaining soul wisps out too.
But somehow, a knot of confusion appears between A-Yuan's tiny brows. Very quickly, his lips begin to wobble. "Am I not good?"
LWJ, who's in the middle of labelling himself an utter
A-Yuan, pouting very hard, "You say mistakes are good, they make us learn. I'm not good? I don't make you learn?"
"You do, baobao," LWJ is almost panicking now. "You make me learn so much. Everyday."
But A-Yuan isn't convinced.
LWJ, suddenly unnecessarily angry at his husband, takes a deep breath. "He was joking bunbun, of course he wants more."
With a hiccup, A-Yuan's waterworks start. "But mistakes should not be repeated."
He quickly places him into his lap and peppers his face with kisses.
With another hiccup, A-Yuan's wailing quietens a little. "He does?"
LWJ nods eagerly.
Despite everything, LWJ huffs. "He does, so so much."
A-Yuan perks up. "So I /am/ a mistake."
LWJ sighs, not knowing how to tackle this one. He's going to leave it for his husband, he decides.
A-Yuan immediately preens, with the smile he's definitely inherited from WWX.
"Best mistake!" He announces gleefully.
It probably doesn't register in WWX's sleepy brain because he only giggles and picks A-Yuan up, throwing him up into air.
"Sister mistake," A-Yuan announces proudly.
WWX's smile turns into confusion. "Mistake?"
"Mn." A-Yuan adorably mimics his other dad.
WWX is frowning now. "Repeat what?"
"Mistake."
"What mistake?"
"Me."
"You?"
"Mn."
Frowning intensifies. "You made a mistake?"
A-Yuan pouts. "No you made me."
WWX has never needed his coffee this desperately. He looks towards—
He turns back to his son with a placating smile. "Diedie is a little slow today radish, tell me again?"
A-Yuan is only all too eager to get his point across.
WWX blinks. Thrice. ".....mistake?" They seem to be going around in circles.
"Mn. Just like me."
WWX's eyes widen slightly. "Baobao you're not a mistake."
WWX's eyes fully pop out now.
A-Yuan quickly loops his arms around his neck and rests his tiny head on WWX's shoulder. "Best mistake," he insists softly.
This time, he finds him looking back, mouth set in a grim line, and an all too familiar it's-all-your-fault glare in his eyes.
