I'm craving jealous wangxian so... Prince WWX who agrees for a royal ball to choose a consort because his relationship with nobleman Lan's nephew is *purely physical* and then spends the entire evening chugging alcohol because Lan Zhan hasn't refused even a single dance...
2
LWJ, when he finally gets to dance with longtime friend Xiao Xingchen, desperately requests a rescue. He has been accepting every dance to save face because this evening was already a slap to him. He didn't want to give Wei Ying the satisfaction of seeing him heartbroken.
3
But now he's tired. He has never been a fan of crowds, and relentless dancing and interacting with people on top of a hollowed heart is just overwhelming. He cannot do it anymore.

Like a good friend, XXC promptly bids the king and queen a goodnight and excuses them both.
4
WWX is failing to understand everything about this evening. Externally as well as internally. Since when did Lan Zhan become such a people's person? Every royal festivity he has spent sticking to the walls waiting for WWX to be done with people so they can escape to his bedroom.
5
How is he suddenly so fond of not just dancing but even talking and *smiling* at people? Is he no longer averse to strange touches? How is he not flinching away from those hands on his waist that WWX is certain are grabbing him like that deliberately.
6
He's certain he can recall atleast three instances where he's told Lan Zhan to reserve his smiles for the prince. Maybe he should charge him with treason for this offence, he thinks, jaws clenched, while pretending to listen to some Duke drone on and on about his daughter.
7
It ultimately bubbles over when he catches LWJ bowing to his parents and proceeding to leave hand-in-hand with a man. His feet move on his own, cutting the conversation short without any respectable excuse, as he walks over and grabs LWJ by the wrist infront of everyone.
8
"Where do you think you're going?" He asks, an eyebrow raised. "The party isn't over yet."

Lan Zhan scans the room with visible discomfort and quietly extricates his hand. "I am not feeling well."

Wrong excuse, because WWX is immediately frowning and stepping closer to him.
9
"What happened?" He places the back of his fingers on Lan Zhan's forehead, so excruciatingly gentle that it brings tears to LWJ's eyes. "What's wrong?"

Lan Zhan steps back, moving out of his reach. "Your highness," he says, pointedly staring into his eyes, and WWX flinches.
10
He cannot remember the last time Lan Zhan called him that, or anything other than Wei Ying.

"You must maintain the decorum, your highness," says Lan Zhan, quiet enough so only WWX hears it. "One of these people is going to be your spouse, this may give them the wrong idea."
11
With that, he grabs XXC's hand and walks out, leaving WWX staring on with an ugly feeling in his chest.

In the aftermath, his mood sours tenfold. He cannot make any more conversations, occupied as his mind is with conjuring images of what Lan Zhan must be doing with that man.
12
The king and queen are forced to end the night earlier, to save the guests further disrespect and also, to shield them all from the storm raging within their son.

WWX wants nothing more than to return to his bedroom and sleep for a week.
13
But he's used to returning from these extravaganzas with LWJ in tow and now that he's not here, it grates on him more than it should.

Absently his feet take him to his personal garden, the place where he had first met Lan Zhan. He senses him before he sees him.
14
Those broad shoulders clad in white suit glistening under the moonlight. Something finally uncoils in his chest, the heaviness fades.

Lan Zhan is sitting by the lake, his trousers folded up to his knees and feet submerged into the water up to his ankles.
15
Hearing footfalls, Lan Zhan turns, and seeing him, immediately stands up and attempts to walk away.

"Wait!"

Lan Zhan does not stop.

"It's a command!"

WWX hates to use that, but he knows it'll work, and it does. LWJ stills his steps and turns, fury shining bright in his eyes.
16
There is a lot to say, but WWX chooses to talk in the one language he knows where Lan Zhan is concerned.

He steps up and kisses him.

And immediately, he is shoved away.

"I didn't choose anyone," he whispers, surging forward again. Once more, he is shoved away.
17
"And so?" Lan Zhan asks, his voice trembles with both, fury and heartache. "You wish to resume this transaction until the right one shows up?"

WWX shakes his head, words piercing his chest. He doesn't cower away, valiantly bypassing LWJ's fighting arms and grabs his face.
18
"There will be no one," he whispers, leaning their foreheads together. "Not today, not tomorrow, not ever."

This time when he captures LWJ's lips, he is not pushed away. It's takes a few moments for Lan Zhan to respond, and when he does, it's rightfully punishing.

If the sex that night is rough and possessive well, they both had it coming.

Not that they're complaining. 🩵
