#wangxian // Infidelity (but not really) Questions, confusion &...

Questions, confusion & disbelief whirl in his mind, the air in the courtroom still as corrosive as the last time.
"Are you sure?" The lawyer's voice cuts through.
Choice, he reminds himself. Choice before love, always.
Lan Zhan nods.
And loving also means respecting your beloved's choice.
If divorce is Wei Ying's choice, Lan Zhan will accept.
If leaving will make him happy, Lan Zhan will let him go.
The screech of wood on the floor interrupts before he can respond. The chair beside him shifts.
"This is getting exhausting," Wei Ying sighs, not turning back from the window he's been staring out of.
"Mr. Wei," he says, "I don't think you're in any position for this kind of attitude here."
Lan Zhan's fist clenches under the table. A hollow, bitter laughter erupts out of Wei Ying.
"Pass the papers already." He says carelessly.
"As if behaving is gonna change what happened," Wei Ying mutters, scrawling his signature. "It's already done, isn't it? What do I have to hide now?"
Then he slides over the papers to Lan Zhan without so much as a glance.
He fidgets with it for a moment, grips tight enough to whiten his knuckles. Then he takes another breath and turns to Wei Ying.
"Why?"
"What do you mean why?" Wei Ying's response is instant.
And Wei Ying sighs. "Didn't you accuse me yourself?" He says, without turning from the window. "Didn't you, according to you, "catch me kissing another man"?
"You know well what I mean," Lan Zhan snaps, gritting his teeth. "Why did you do it?"
"I loved you, you know?" He says.
Lan Zhan averts his eyes, utterly underprepared for these words, given the situation.
"You hate Jasmine, Lan Zhan." He whispers.
Wei Ying takes a breath.
"And I'm tired of sniffing it off your shirts."
"What?" He turns back to Wei Ying.
Wei Ying laughs again, with an undercurrent of steel.
"I hate Jasmine too," Wei Ying huffs with bitterness, "especially in my home. In my bedroom. In your shirt," he swallows, "amidst your scent."
"It makes me want to die." Wei Ying grits out.
"You never questioned it." Lan Zhan accuses.
"I would have," Wei Ying blares, with nothing but rage in his eyes. "If you weren't so conveniently late everyday."
"Because we've been talking so much recently?" Wei Ying retorts.
Eyes fixed on the papers, Lan Zhan asks, quietly, "Since when did my silence become a roadblock to you?"
Wei Ying has no response to that.
Wei Ying blinks, speechlessly staring at him for a moment, then hastily turns away. "Maybe."
Lan Zhan nods.
"Then you should have just asked me," he says, voice frail, "instead of…," he cannot finish.
A pause.
"That I would also lock you up?"
Wei Ying's head snaps back.
"Lan Zhan….," he says, weakly.
Lan Zhan picks up the pen and signs the paper. Then he walks out of the office.
"What the hell was that?"
Lan Zhan turns again. Wei Ying jerks him back again.
"I asked," his eyes bore him like a warning, "what the fuck was that?"
"You got what you wanted," he says quietly, "hope you're happy now."
Wei Ying stares at him with disbelief. Then he steps forward and shoves him, sending Lan Zhan stumbling a few steps back.
"You played fucking dirty!"
"You divorced me!"
"You agreed to this!" Wei Ying shouts.
A few people at the parking lot turn to look at them with raised eyebrows.
"You made me," Lan Zhan yells back.
Lan Zhan grips his hand tightly. "I accused you of kiss cheating," he says, menacing, "you accused me of sex cheating."
Wei Ying huffs, indignantly, then yanks his hand away.
"I accused you of smell cheating."
Wei Ying scowls. "Lan Zhan, you agreed to this," he says, angrily, "you're the one who wanted to remarry."
"Remarrying does not require divorce." Lan Zhan rumbles.
"What even is this nonsense," Lan Zhan continues as if he didn't hear him at all, "there is no such thing as divorced sex."
"Maybe I invented it," Wei Ying retorts, voice cocky, "you know I'm good at inventing."
Wei Ying's jaw drops. "Hey!" he yells, "you don't shame my kinks, I don't shame yours."
Lan Zhan glares. "We could have role-played."
Wei Ying smiles, "how about we do it now where you pretend to not be a jerk!"
"Where are you going now?" Wei Ying yells, sighing, "I'm still mad."
"I do not want to go with you," Lan Zhan grumbles.
Wei Ying narrows his eyes. "You know what the highway is like, what if I get hit by a car?"
"Take the car, I will walk."
"We only have two days Lan Zhan," Wei Ying whines, "then we'll be husbands again. You really wanna waste all this time being angry?"
"Good to know two days seem nothing to you," Lan Zhan taunts.
Wei Ying sighs again. "You're being overly dramatic."
"You came up with that Jasmine story," Lan Zhan grits, glaring, "and I am the one who's dramatic?"
"That was cool, right? I guess I'm more dramatic, haha, but it worked! We're already arguing like a nice divorced coup— Lan Zhan! Stop! I'm still mad!"
"You're clearly enjoying this," Lan Zhan grumbles, walking away.
"What was I supposed to do? Let that golden opportunity go?"
"And what the fuck was that you said in there?"
That gives Wei Ying a pause.
He stares on, disbelieving for a moment, then grabs Lan Zhan's arm and turns him, all traces of mischief gone from his face.
Lan Zhan senses it before it comes.
"As if I care?" Wei Ying asks.
Chastisement burns deep within Lan Zhan, colouring his ears.
Even so, he retrieves his hand.
"You made the love of my life leave me."
He steps closer, and loops his arms around Lan Zhan's neck.
"Say sorry," he says, kissing his cheeks.
When Lan Zhan glares, he kisses the other cheek. "Your mistake was graver, so you'll apologize first."
"Say sorry."
"I'm sorry," Lan Zhan mumbles, looking down.
Wei Ying places a long, lingering kiss on his lips.
"I'm sorry too."
"It's just two days," Wei Ying kisses his pout, "I promise to make it worth your while."
When Lan Zhan looks up, he finds Wei Ying wiggling his brows.
"Aye aye Captain!" Wei Ying gives him his three-finger salute.
Lan Zhan drags Wei Ying back and stuffs him into the passenger seat.
He will swear he ran no red light on the way, although Wei Ying will disagree.
Nor on the third day because Lan Zhan decides the second wedding night would be full of punishments.
To those with the misfortune of reading this, I'm sorry lol. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever written but it was itching my brain too much so I had to dump it here.
Hope you laughed a little, at least 🫰
