How to create a compelling, high-converting lead magnet.

First, let's make sure we're on the same page.

A lead magnet is a freebie you give away in exchange for people subscribing to your email list.

And they've evolved since the start of the digital marketing era...
3
At first, you could give away anything your prospects would find valuable.

And the more you gave, the better.

Books and even complete courses were used to entice subscribers.
4
But ten years ago or so that approach started to become less and less effective.

Because people are busy, they barely have time for things they've paid for.

They don't want another 200 page PDF collecting digital dust on their hard drive.
5
Instead what emerged as the new best practice for lead magnets was:

Promising a single, specific result...

In a form that could be consumed in five minutes or less.
6
But over the last couple of years that also started to lose its effectiveness.

Because people have heard all the promises before and they're tired of them.

So what's the most powerful lead magnet now?
7
Now you not only have to promise a single, specific result.

You have to tell your prospects how they'll get that result (this is known as the mechanism).

Letting them know the how makes the promise more believable and helps you stand out from your competition.

For example:
8
"Lose 7lbs in 7 Days"

Is a decent enough promise.

A decade ago it would've been fine for a lead magnet.

But now you need to add the how (and ideally your how is unique):
9
"Lose 7lbs in 7 Days"

With This Simple Meal-Timing Trick"

Instantly it's much more compelling.

And you can take it up another notch by...
10
Adding a proof and credibility element:

"How 11,413 Women Have

Lost 7lbs in 7 Days"

With This Simple Meal-Timing Trick"

And the format of your lead magnet...
11
Doesn't really matter.

Video's popular.

But audio works well. As do things like templates, checklists, or cheatsheets.

The key is it must be quick and easy to consume.

And you also want it to...
12
Lead into the sale.

As while getting a subscriber's good. Getting a customer's even better.

So make sure the content delivers a result and also lets your audience know you can help them even more.

So to sum up...
13
Your lead magnet wants to:

- Promise a single, specific result your audience wants.

- Reveal the unique mechanism behind the result.

- Ideally feature a proof or credibility element.

- Be quick and easy to consume.

- And lead into the sale.
