The day’s come, you’re all packed and ready to go. Anxiety ripples beneath the surface, and it’s definitely cracking your once confident and undisturbed form.
3
A tremble claims your fingertips as you run your fingers through Bau’s soft fur. You’re taking the Pokemon with you, but only Astraeus will be staying with you for the whole time.
4
V’s in the other room; you know you don’t have much time left with her, not until everything starts... Or ends. Bau gives a quiet yap before sauntering off, and you give each and every one of your Pokemon, minus the egg and Styx, a fang-kiss.
5
You rub your eyes, stomach turning over with fear and horror.
6
“Please let us turn out alright.” You send a last-ditch prayer to the stars, to any deity that might be out there, to keep you safe. You don’t believe in or trust within them, but you’re sure as hell begging for their safety now.
7
It’s funny how things change when you’re no longer the baddest bitch on the block, just another chicken for the foxes to snatch while the farmers are asleep…
8
Astraeus settles next to you, their gray eyes shut. You don’t have to exchange words aloud. You can feel one another’s heartbeat, the emotions coursing through the other’s veins. You’re connected, soulbound for eternity. That’s why it’s paramount they stay with you.
9
If anything, they can drag you out of a bad situation; after all, it’s their life too.
10
Both of you could die at the exact same time. Neither of you want that…

So its best to stick together.
11
The tiny Zorua scrambles across a hollow log, ears pricked. They’re meeting their new friend, the blue Zorua, today. They’ve left the safety of their den, traveled down the path, far enough to find her again. Of course she shows up.
12
Loyalty is everything, after all. Prancing and playing in the bright sunshine, with the heat from the sun beating down on their backs is how they spent the day, trailing down the path, taking the much more secluded and wild route where the path diverged into two.
13
Almost silent pawsteps cover the ground, kicking up dirt and rocks in their wake. Over tree roots, through bramble bushes…
14
Neither of them notice when the path abruptly leads into road. The sky-blue Zorua speeds over concrete, turning back to stare at her much tinier friend, ears pricked.
15
It lets out a warning howl, and suddenly the concrete begins to rattle beneath her paws. A TRUCK! She twists her head to stare in horror, frozen on the spot. Muscles refuse to cooperate—
16
A loud screeching noise painfully slams both of their ears as the truck halts, just a few inches from her nose. The blue Zorua trembles, crouching down on the earth. The truck’s doors opens, and out comes the hunters.
17
Two for two. An unfair fight, yet the tiny fox won’t let them win that easily.
18
Not. This. Time.
19
Sharp teeth flash in the sunlight as the tiny red Zorua lunges forward, right at one of the hunters, all dressed in robes of white and satin. Their eyes are empty; their souls are dead. Just a shell…
20
Zorua’s fangs sink into one of their arms, and the fox orders the blue Zorua to run, to flee. But she does not. Her golden gaze hardens into a steely glare, and she leaps for the other. The hunters throw the Zorua to the earth, gripping their nets tightly in hand.
21
But the Zorua are too quick this time, both of them have four good legs and something to fight for. Angry snarls and growls burst from both the vulpines throats, and it doesn’t take long before slender jaws wrap around one of the nets, snapping it clean in half.
22
The sky-blue Zorua stares on in awe as the red Zorua begins to glow; a rainbowy shimmer slides over their black and red body, and the once tiny Zorua evolves into a mighty Zoroark, the protector of it’s kin, it’s mate, and the forest itself.
23
The Zoroark’s jaws open wide, and it shrieks.

The hunters take a few steps back, back toward their truck…

And the Zoroark and Zorua take their chance to flee.
24
Back down the path, back towards Zoroark’s home.

Back to safety.
25
The war wasn’t won, but the battle was over.
26
The hunters did not win on this day.
27
You wonder what that dream meant. The ache in your heart tells you plainly that the war might never end, not for the foxes. But they tried their hardest, and this time they won.
28
Surely you can, too?

Maybe it’s just your exhausted, distorted mind begging you to think positively, something to hope, to strive for.

Normalcy. Protection. Freedom.
29
You’ll have all three as soon as you’re back to normal. Furless, fangless, clawless, tailless. So damn close. Just a few more months, and you’ll have everything you’ve ever wanted. Everything you’ve wanted since escaping Team Plasma, that is.
30
You have Venus, you have Astraeus, you have your other Pokemon partners… Yet nothing feels right. Because you aren’t 𝘺𝘰𝘶.
31
But you will be.
32
The foxes escaped their captors, and so did you. So will you and V. Don’t stay a heartbeat longer than you have to, even if it means making yourself bedridden longer than you should be.
33
A small smile crosses your face, through the stress.

You have to make it out okay. Of course you will.
34
Your worries might not be unfounded, but nothing has ever broken you. This is no exception.
