MYTH:
"Boundaries = rejections"

TRUTH:
You're not rejecting their personality. You're telling them what you do and don't like.

If they decide to go with the latter, they are rejecting 𝘺𝘰𝘶 as being a person with autonomy.

If, in order to maintain a relationship, you have to hide importants parts of you or compromise your values and boundaries, then you are not actually in that relationship.

Meeting someone who can handle rejection without resentment is an experience of love.

Meeting someone with clear boundaries is an experience of trust.

"What will allow me to stay in connection with this person without resenting them" is such a powerful question for figuring where your boundaries lie.
It's also a pretty neutral way to communicate them. "I don't want to feel resentful so here are the lines I need to draw."

What if everyone who is a source of stress in your life were sent as tough love teachers with one mission?

To get you to say: "It's time to fully love myself and let my boundaries reflect that."

@TheOnlyTheodora Boundaries give us the freedom to relax.

Imagine how easy it would be to fully let go and relax while living in a house with no walls.

Note to self:

As Joe Hudson says: boundaries are a method of telling people how to better love you.

They are not armour
They are not armour

Healthy boundaries function more as an interface than an impregnable wall. Health can be built by adding new negotiated interfaces.

One of the most powerful life skills you can develop:

Building the capacity to feel.

So many issues across life are downstream of low feeling capacity that I think this should be core curriculum.

I feel like when people bump up against your boundaries (and vice versa!), it's a normal, even necessary, part of relational reality. that's how you learn where you end and the other person begins, what's important to you, what your preferences are. there is no learning in a pristine space... some amount of bumping needs to happen. what's more, this whole process of setting and receiving boundaries with care and consideration can feel normal, second nature, and easeful. it doesn't have to be this tense, scary, or shame-evoking (!) experience.
