Did CDS Anil Chouhan do a blunder at Shangri-la?

Modi shouldn't have send him there?

CDS shouldn't have admitted "loss"?

He did what he was sent for.

CDS did something VERY IMPORTANT which will not just keep China & Pakistan on the edge but France as well.

Read how👇

CDS said "it was not important that jet was down but why it was down. we changed our tactics and hit back Pakistan 300 KM deep with a meter accuracy on subsequent days".

Connect the dots till the end.

On Day 0, Rafale fighters armed with SCALP missiles “made all the noise”—their long-range precision was showcased to the world.

CDS said we had some losses but that's not important what India did after that was important.

On May 8,9,10 ...

It wasn't Scalp Missile or Rafale that made all the noise.

It was Brahmos, Akashteer, S-400, Rudram and other system which made the headlines.

It was NAVIC system, India's own GPS, used for precision strikes.

In the meantime there was news of source code not getting shared by one of key supplier to India.

Without Source code India couldn't load its own missiles to that fighter jet.

CDS's statement...

...is very powerful to indicate two things:
1. India is biggest buyer of weapons. Do not take this as India's weakness. India has successfully defended its territory and decimated Pakistan with Indo-Russian systems.

It is one of the biggest marketing event to showcase the effectiveness of your weapons.

If you work like Russians work with India, you will have biggest validation for your products, else India's one statement can disturb your future deals across the globe.

CDS's statement will cause lot of jitters in France.
In fact....

...the IAF’s Day 1 recalibration saw squadrons switch to BrahMos-equipped Su-30MKIs, Jaguars, striking airbases deep inside Pakistan—all while “avoiding crossing nuclear thresholds.”

This not only neutralized Pakistani A2/AD zones, Chinese HQ-9 systems but also sent a message: “If you won’t share tech, we’ll demonstrate ours.”
6
Gen. Chauhan’s remark—“it’s not about the jet being down, but why they were being down”—was a calculated message to both Pakistan and China.

By acknowledging early losses and showcasing rapid correction, India underlined:
• Professionalism: we own our setbacks.
• Resilience: we adapt in real time.
• Deterrence: we maintain the initiative.

No professional force can claim zero loss...

Historically, wars are rarely decided by single-asset losses. Consider:
• 1971 Indo-Pak War: India lost over 50 aircraft but achieved breakup of Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh.

• Operation Desert Storm (1991): The U.S. lost jets to Iraqi air defenses yet decimated Saddam’s forces and liberated Kuwait.

• Falklands War (1982): The UK lost ships and Harriers but reclaimed the islands.
Asset attrition is not mission attrition.

Will India lose to narrative war due to this admission?

Absolutely NO.

All global media house has accepted the devastation cause by India.

Pakistani PM has acknowledged that.

Pakistani General at Shangri-La dialogue accepted the defeat.

India is already owning the facts and narrative both.

It wasn't easy...

CDS also highlighted that 15% of the IAF’s efforts during Sindoor went into “countering disinformation.”

With Pakistan churning out claims of numerous downed jets—fuelled by Chinese media—India prioritized narrative control as a core part of modern warfare.

Truth, after all, is as potent as any missile.

In summary, Gen. Anil Chauhan’s comments didn’t weaken India’s narrative; they fortified it demonstrating that even with hiccups, India’s armed forces are adaptive, accountable, and strategically decisive.

Gen. Chauhan’s subtle hint at jet down wasn’t a sigh of defeat; it was a geopolitical jab:

• Message to suppliers: “If you won’t share code, we’ll use our systems .”

• Message to China: “Your J-20 or JF-17 or HQ-9 can’t safeguard Pakistan.”
11
World will only follow you, if you show your strength.

Operation Sindoor is not about asset loss or not, but for:
1. Defining doctrine against terrorism: Deep-penetration strikes demonstrating reach beyond 300 km

2. Display of Made In India Defence systems

3. A doctrine shift that signals: Foreign vendors must align or get sidelined

4. Reinforcing India’s professional, accountable, and potent military posture

India has spoken its doctrine has evolved, and the global defense market is listening.

Rafale and JF-17's lot of deal hang on India's account of Operation Sindoor.

So India holds the key.
