🧵: Case Study - How to grow an ~80k follower Facebook Page from $2,000 in monthly earnings to $10,000 per month

We’re starting a weekly case study series wherein our followers can share their Facebook assets and we will do a public facing analysis of where they’re at today, what they’re doing well and what needs work. We will also provide recommendations on exactly what you can do to maximize your reach, revenue and earnings potential.

This week we’re covering a travel page with ±80,000 followers about a beloved city in the USA. Whether you have a page called I Love New York City, Philadelphia Lovers, Paradise in Las Vegas, Living in Miami, Fried Chicken in Louisiana or any general travel page - these insights and recommendations will apply to you and your assets. These recommendations will also help anyone in any niche using the magical powers of extrapolation.

We normally provide this kind of information in our consulting packages, but are doing mini versions to benefit everyone. Let’s get started!
2
1/ Where they’re at today:

1. ~80,000 followers

2. The page was earning $1,000 to $3,000 monthly on average. In the beginning of January a few posts went ‘crazy viral’ and the page ended up making $5,000 total that month from a mix of hotel affiliate posts and display ads.

3. The page was on track to earning $7,000 to $10,000 that month but the page owner wasn’t able to keep that level of performance going. Either way, he says $5,000 per month was life changing for him.

4. Our stance is, if he can make $5,000 per month from these assets, then he should be able to make $10,000 from them!

Let’s see how 👇
3
2/ The roadmap to getting the page to earning $10,000 per month:

1. Get the page approved for Bonuses or Creator Monetization - this is low hanging fruit. This additional income stream can easily provide an additional $1,000 to $2,000 per month on an average month.

2. Get the web traffic from the page up to 200,000 - 300,000 sessions per month. The page owner was able to achieve the $5,000 per month from roughly 100,000 visitors, earning an RPM of approximately $50. Let’s round that down due to RPM volatility throughout the year and assume an average of a $35 RPM - 200k to 300k sessions will earn an additional $7,000 to $10,500 per month.

3. Add an additional 50k to 100k sessions per month to the website from Facebook Groups, adding an additional $1,750 to $3,500 per month in earnings.

And, just like that, you’re earning $10k per month and even more in some months.
4
3/ What the page is doing right:

1. They’ve built a super passionate dedicated audience of people that LOVE the city the page writes about.

2. They’re doing high-quality, engaging listicle type posts about things lovers of this city would be into, like:
‘10 Mistakes Everyone Makes Who Visits ______’
‘5 Best Hotels for _______ Nightlife’
‘10 Cheap Things To Do in _______ At Night’

3. They’re posting a mix of photos, text posts and link shares (in the form of image plus link in first comment)

4. You can tell they’re passionate about the subject.

Here are things they can do to increase their reach, engagement and earnings 👇
5
4/ Expand the niche, but not too much:

Right now the page is posting exclusively about the happenings of a single city. Yes, the page’s followers are following the page because they are into that city and the page is connected to that city.

But the issue with this approach is that we are drastically limiting the people the page can reach. When a Facebook page has a niche that’s too tight, it becomes very hard to scale that page.

So, what are things we can do to increase the content scope without pissing off the audience too much?

1. Share content that is tangentially related to the location connected to the page. Examples include: road trips you can do across the country (including this city), train rides across the country (including this city), nearby destinations, destinations in the same state or neighboring states, and so on. Try to get creative.

2. Share content that would apply to someone visiting this city (or any human visiting a destination). For example: a viral article topic about driving at night, scams not to fall for, the worst airlines to avoid, travelling with pets, how to deal with traffic, etc.

3. Share super viral general travel content (sparingly). These people like to travel, if they travel to your city, they will travel to other ones. But don’t overdo it.

4. Very important: anything that you share that’s not directly related to the city the page is about, you must use the caption to tie the subject back to the topic of the page.

When you start to expand the niche, it’s important to remember that these new types of posts will flop more than your regular posts in the beginning. You will need to keep refining and testing to see what works and what doesn’t for your audience. Do not give up. Start with a small number of these ‘expansion’ posts and slowly increase as you see success and find winning formulas.

[Note: In our consulting packages we share the exact article topics, headlines and images that you can immediately use that have guaranteed viral success based on our library of content shared and refined across hundreds of pages. We don’t share these exact frames publicly in posts like this so that these topics do not get over-saturated.]
6
5/ Use a more consistent format:

It’s best to train your audience to follow a consistent type of format and style for your posts. In the case of this page, they keep doing different image formats for their image + link in first comment posts.

Oftentimes they do a photo image with no text on it, and in the caption they outline what the article is about with a prompt to read the first comment.

Other times they do the headline inside of the image, similar to what you would see on a page like Unilad.

For a travel-type page, my suggestion would be to combine both of these approaches into one and to do it consistently. Do a big image that shows the photo as large as possible, and then do the big headline text at the bottom. Keep doing the prompt in the caption as well. This will improve click through rates and bonus earnings.
7
6/ Post more, more consistently:

Right now they’re doing anywhere from 5 to 20 posts per day. January had more posts in the day, February is closer to 9 posts a day. Keep it steady at 12 posts a day minimum.

Overall page reach will improve as a result.
8
7/ Leave comments on all posts:

Leave a comment an hour after the post goes live.

Leave another comment a few hours after that.

Respond to two or three comments from readers on top of that to create a nested comment thread.

This will improve Facebook’s internal click through rate, boost engagement and ultimately boost reach.

Get a virtual assistant to do it if you don’t have the time.
9
8/ Recycle your top performers over and over again:

Don’t overdo it, but keep recycling your top posts every few weeks.

Don’t do it too quickly, let some time go by.
10
9/ Distribution on Facebook Groups:

1. Make a list of Facebook Groups that are directly related or tangentially related to your niche

2. Share your top performing posts on those groups 1-3 times per week. Once you have Bonuses, especially do this with your top earning posts as it will boost your Bonus earnings significantly and also drive more reach to your page.

Again, you can have a virtual assistant do this.
11
10/ Start a Page Like ad campaign to give the page a kickstart again:

Have a Page Like ad campaign running for $3 a day.

Keep refining your ad creatives until you get the per Like cost down to around a penny and just keep the new audience growth coming in.

This approach mixed with sharing super viral content will easily get the page to 100k then 200k then eventually 500k and above followers.

This will lead to earning more and more income.
12
11/ Post less of what doesn’t work and more of what works:

This page is posting lots of photo posts that are just images taken in the city. These aren’t performing as well as other types of posts. I would opt to run less of these in favor of more photo + link in comment posts.

It’s hard for a single person to do lots of articles, so what you can also do is post what would be a photo + link in comment type of post but instead put all of the information that would normally go into the article into the caption itself. These types of posts are killing it on many pages. Use the exact same format and style as your regular photo + link in first comment posts (just without the link in the comment).

The text status posts also aren’t doing particularly well. I would likely reduce the frequency of those and just leave a few that are very likely to do well. This page is doing a purple background for these types of posts - text status posts with a black background tend to perform much better due to the higher contrast.
13
12/ Write long and detailed captions!
14
13/ Keep doing the above and continuously boosting reach and the page will inevitably get the invitation to the Bonus or Creator Monetization programs.

And keep going and iterating and the page will get to $10k per month in earnings and beyond!

🧵Case Study Pt 2: How this ±80k Facebook Page boosted reach by 191%, website traffic by 51% and got 13,000 new followers in…4 days!

Last week we shared a case study of a follower of ours who has an ±80k Travel-based Facebook page. We outlined some strategies that he could follow, which he implemented immediately. Here were the results:

“Wanted to share this with you. Testing some niche expansion topics based on other viral travel posts I’ve seen. Crazy awesome results so far. Flooding me with traffic! Thanks again for your help.”

“Yeah, it’s the most viral post I’ve ever had. You encouraged me to dream bigger so I’m going for 500k views per month now.”

“I hit 106,000 views last month, this month I've already hit 55,000 thousand (Feb 10) so on track to crush over 160,000 views in a shorter, 28 day month!”

“I took on some of your advice that I’ve jumped from 80k followers to 93k as of this morning.”

“Also, I’ve over taken every other page in my niche in terms of followers except one, which is the official “[city]” tourist board. But I’m closing in on them. Crazy. Really crazy.”

Here’s how he did it with a little bit of guidance from yours truly 👇

"By the way, i just woke up to this going on. It’s only 6am. Already hit 6k views. It’s all Facebook. I don’t really know what going on. I thought Google Discover must have picked me up. Nope. It’s like FB decided to boost me or something"

This is how we did it 👇

Update #3: The real time traffic keeps on growing... conclusion: expand your niche as much as possible!

"I love that you posted that screenshot. Here’s another one from later in the day. I’m only getting these results because of your push for niche expansion. Today I’ve had over 25,000 views and the day isn’t over. I used to get those numbers for a while month but never in ONE DAY."

The below screenshot shows real time traffic, almost all of which is coming from USA and the rest from Canada - therefore super high paying traffic relative to other countries.

Update 4: "Traffic has been crazy. I posted a news article about Kid Rock and got 44k views in a single day this week. Made $1735 in a single day. Crossed 125k views already for the month. Crazy. You really inspired me man. This has me thinking about all kinds of possibilities. If I can get to half a million views per month I can quit my day job!"
