Bad things happen when you sleep. Memories, nightmares, foretellings. They all blend together.
It's a relief to shut your eyes; you're gone instantly.
.
.
.
You stretch, claws arcing to touch the sky before they dig into a rather soft surface.
Your eyes snap open, still blurry from sleep. You feel... rested enough. Your head doesn't lift off the ground, but you do examine your surroundings.
It feels... Normal. Like you're meant to be here.
Your vision clears.
But that feels normal. After all, why wouldn't it be?
You sit up, itching that scratch with a little bit of difficulty.
You feel what must be some semblance of excitement for that fact. But it's not really enough to be an emotion.
You snap your jaws in their direction, and the fishy little Vaporeon spits some water at you, just like they do every day.
They yip but don't seem scared of you at all. A person follows soon after, stepping around your gigantic form and the tiny water - dog.
They don't... have a face. Not one that you can see. You can see their nose and their mouth and their eyes, but...
You can't hear. It's so muffled, it's impossible to make out what they're saying. They look down at their watch, and you can see that, too! What time is it?
If they don't care, you shouldn't either. But the moment your hands hit the cobblestone path, the world shifts. It's like you've just been shocked, an electric current making your body jolt.
They don't even attempt to help you as the stone splits and crumbles and you can do nothing but claw at the air, a silent howl of panic escaping your throat.
You fight through the fear and open your eyes. There's a thin layer of water covering the floor; if you try and sit down, you'll get wet. So you don't.
You look aroundโthere are people here, with you. thick metal bars box you in.
You shiver, feeling very small. Where were you? What was happening?
There are panicked whispers from the people around you. They know something you don't.
You can hear their whispers.
...One storm that had been going for days.
They've stopped checking up on you all. You're hungry, and so is everybody else.
Your fur smells wet and feels disgusting, and it bothers everyone else...
You shudder and grit your teeth. You poke your head between the bars, trying to get a better look.
This water was black and sticky, like tar. You try to hold your breath, shutting your eyes as your head goes under.
You can't breathe... You can hold your breath for so, so long, but your chest screams for air.
Where have you seen this before?
Your nightmares?
...
You crawl out from underneath the warm boiler room pipes, stretching and letting your bones snap back into place.
Thank god for your chip!
So it'd be impossible to get stuck forever. You ruffle your fur up, take a deep breath, adjust your collar, and clamber to your feet.
