My ex broke up with me eight months ago. We hadn’t spoken since....

We hadn’t spoken since.
One afternoon, I received a message from an unknown number.
“Hey, I found your jacket. Want me to drop it off?”
I replied, “Who is this?”
They said, “You really deleted my number?”
I recognized the writing style immediately.
It was my ex.
I told him to donate the jacket.
He replied, “Okay. By the way, congratulations on the new job.”
I hadn’t told him I had changed jobs.
I asked how he knew.
He said,
I checked my social media.
My account was private, and I hadn’t posted anything about work.
I blocked the number.
A week later, my best friend sent me a screenshot of a comment on her Instagram picture.
It was from my ex.
He had written, “Tell her I still have the jacket.”
My friend replied, “She told you to donate it.”
His response was:
“I wasn’t talking about that jacket.”
I immediately called my best friend and asked what he meant.
She went silent for a few seconds.
Then she sent me another screenshot.
It was a photograph of my old apartment.
My ex had written,
I zoomed in on the photograph.
There was a child’s drawing taped to the refrigerator.
I recognized it immediately.
It was the drawing I had made for my little sister before she passed away.
I had searched everywhere for it after moving out.
Then my friend sent one final message.
“There’s something else. He says he knows why you really left him.”
