This is NOT me being sarcastic; I mean it:

I love the boys. I have loved them for nearly a decade. But the level of control their personal actions have on some people’s emotions & overall mental wellness genuinely concerns me+
2
I know it’s different when you’re very young & it’s harder to separate identity. I also know many of us (including me) have been profoundly impacted by BTS’s music+
3
This is also not a comment on being pleased or disappointed. It’s possible to be either without it being unhealthy or concerning. It’s everyone’s right to feel either way about anything+
4
My concern is the genuine level of dependence some people (from their own posts) seem to have on the behavior of others to dictate their whole level of functioning+
5
Over the years, BTS members have made various decisions I liked & some I did not like. I have had times when I was thrilled & times when I wished it could be different+
6
My following of BTS, however, does not dictate my entire life or emotions. This community is important to me, and BTS are my favorite artists of all time—but I live my own life, and their life as people is entirely separate from that+
7
While I love BTS, support them in practical ways, and enjoy Army, I am not comfortable with encouraging anyone to hang their entire life on BTS, their actions, their perceived perfection or imperfection, or anything similar+
8
I am old enough to be the mother of some of this community, and I want to see Army flourish in their own lives, with BTS as an encouragement & their music as an empowering force+
9
BTS has never signed on to be anyone’s therapist or deity. We are strong; we can live and make decisions and flourish in our lives. I don’t like seeing anyone conceding their power to someone they don’t know, even to people I love as much as I care for the members+
10
The level of emotional dependence some people show would be concerning even in a close relationship, let alone in a parasocial context+
11
We say “touch grass” as a joke, but it’s not always unserious.

Any event can be an opportunity to grow. I genuinely hope some may realize that being so dependent on the perceived perfection of ppl you will never meet is concerning for yourself, independent of anyone else.
