Who you marry is one of the most important decisions you'll make in life. The person you spend your life with has a proud effect on: your fulfillment, your immune system, and your daily habits.

The person you marry will be there during the death of your parents, the possible birth of a child, the loss of jobs, and the trauma that naturally happens throughout life.

One consistent in life is change. That change will affect how you show up for your partner. There will be seasons of life where you're giving way more. And seasons of life where you have nothing at all to give.

The truth about marriage is life happens. It's not a romantic fairy tale. It's a journey with someone who will see your darkest moments. They'll see you at your most vulnerable. They'll see parts of you, you want to hide.

Marriage is a choice. It's choosing to show up when it's easier to avoid. It's choosing to see your partner as a flawed human doing the best they can, knowing that the grace you give them will be given in return.

Often, we show up in marriage unaware of our wounds and unspoken expectations. A part of all of us wants to be fixed or rescued. A part of us fears asking for help or being dependent on someone else.

The truth about marriage is we're designed to depend on each other. And that means we allow someone to take care of us, to sacrifice, and to recieve without spiraling into guilt.

It requires us to forgive them and ourselves over and over again. It asks us to take action--not just words--to show another person we choose them. It forces us to face parts of ourselves we've ran away from.

Marriage is a journey of personal evolution. Where we repair after conflict, show up when it's not convenient, and learn that safe love can feel "boring" if all we've ever known is chaos.
