You don’t stay in the wrong relationship because you’re weak. You...

You stay because you think it’s “not that bad.”
Here’s what you need to know:
1. The "Not That Bad" Trap
You tell yourself:
- We've been together for so long, we’re basically married.
- I just need to endure.
- Maybe God is using me to change her.
But deep down, you know something is off.
I was in this trap for eight years.
Engaged. Wedding paid for. The future set in stone.
And I ignored every red flag.
I told myself:
• “We’ve been together for so long, we’re basically married.”
• “Maybe if it I propose, she’ll take me more seriously”
• “Our fundamental disagreements are not that big a deal.”
But here’s what I didn’t realize:
Staying in the wrong relationship doesn’t just keep you from the right one.
It keeps you from who God created you to be.
2. The Day Everything Changed
One day, I was wrestling with all these doubts.
And I felt the Holy Spirit say:
"Gabe, if you don’t let Me into this area of your life, I’ll still accomplish My will... I’ll just use someone else."
That was the gut punch.
Maybe God was playing to my ego a bit, lol.
But really - God was seeing if I was In agreement with His identity for me.
I was in a season of business where I was seriously questioning what God created me for.
And I was bluntly reminded, God’s will isn’t dependent on me.
His plan will move forward—whether I align with it or not.
And at that moment, I knew.
I had to cut it off. Burn it away.
Fully step into what God had for me.
It was painful. It was brutal. But it was necessary.
And on the other side?
Everything changed.
I grew. My faith strengthened. My business nearly 10xed (after almost burning to the ground lol).
And I met the woman God created for me - the same way he created Eve FOR Adam.
So If you’re stuck in the "Not That Bad" Trap…
1) Ask yourself: Is this relationship pulling me toward or away who God created me to be?
2) Stop justifying misalignment.
If you’re making excuses for why something might work, it’s already a sign.
3) Trust that God has more for you than you can ask or imagine. God won’t leave you empty-handed when you walk away from something that’s not meant for you.
The cutting off and burning away of your current idols makes room for more than you can ever ask or imagine.
I don’t share this to tell you what to do.
I share it because I wish someone had told me sooner.
So if you’re in that place - feeling the weight of a decision you don’t want to make - know this:
You don’t have to stay stuck.
You don’t have to keep settling.
You don’t have to wait for the pain to be unbearable before you finally walk away.
In fact - if you continue to wait, it’s going to feel like your using a splintered wooden spoon to amputate an infected limb.
So instead, like when Genesis talks about the Cherubim with flaming swords placed in front of the tree of life (Gen. 3:24) in order to represent the
cutting off and burning away of anything that can’t enter what God has for you - cut off and burn away what doesn’t align with what God has for you.
Cut off and burn away.
Cut off and burn away.
Cut off and burn away.
Step forward.
And trust that what’s waiting on the other side is so much better than what you're afraid to lose.
- Gabe
