Someone replies to the CEO demanding for the 500000th time I be banned (HIPPO), CEO makes the grave error of responding jokingly instead of with the seriousness the situation warrants, it doesn't go well

2/ These people have created a world in which they relentlessly harass and dox and death-threat anyone they dislike enough while simultaneously convincing themselves that all the stuff they do to other people is being done to them. It's truly an asylum

3/ The folks running Bluesky appear to have had enough. They've been getting screamed at, nonstop, by some of the angriest and most unhappy people on the internet for almost a year and it has to just get brain-breaking

4/ Jay is now just rather openly shitposting in a manner she must know will antagonize Bluesky, like a mad scientist who created an army of frothing ghouls but, realizing the error of her ways, chose to allow them to consume her

It's... it's beautiful

5/ Because Bluesky selects for people who have a huge amount of time to post and who are mostly only capable of communicating through memes, the initial WAFFLE post was always going to set off a dayslong series of reverberations. In context, this one's actually pretty good

6/ That being said, "pretty good" is not the norm amidst the current memery. Part of the problem is that you will not find a userbase with less of a sense of humor. Also a group w/rigid patterns of thought and a lack of nuance, leading to stuff like this:

8/ Jay getting more direct. A "Healthy Discourse Project" centered on Bluesky is like a [immediately blacks out trying to even come up with an analogy]

10/ WAFFLES becoming an I AM SPARTACUS type deal (except much more historically important) among Bluesky staff. This is the CTO openly beefing with users about this

11/ Random user so I'm leaving out handle but this gets to the rub of all of this: For almost a decade, now, there has been a very loud minority that has demanded anyone who disagree with any of their views on trans stuff get banned/fired/reputationally napalmed

12/ The book I'm working on is a close look at the evidence questions surrounding youth gender medicine. That's what I'm written the most about in this area, by far. When you compare the evidence level with the energetic attempts to destroy skeptics... it steamrolls your brain

13/ This is another tic that was ubiquitous during the peak era of liberal institutional meltdowns: any disagreement on anything identity-related was met with "You hate us! You want us to die!" Just this really BPD-redolent level of attempted emotional manipulation.

15/ What Jay fails to understand is that 10ish straight months of her and her team getting screamed at by undersocialized lunatics is not "harassment," it's "unpaid labor" that "gives [BlueSky] value"

-the Disney analogy doesn't work because Disney isn't a company with 600,000 nationwide viewers and no profit model. other than that good call

18/ 500+ reskeets for the claim that because I have used the forbidden term (WAFFLES) it is now a "Nazi dog whistle"
