Many who are critical of US & Israeli aggression toward Iran are making predictions about Iran’s response based on a misunderstanding of US power. They see our inability to impose postwar conditions in Iraq & Afghanistan, and think it implies a similar limit on our destructive capacity. No, we cannot reinstall the Shah and turn Iran into a stable constitutional monarchy, but we can destroy Iran with relative ease. The Iranians are not stupid or crazy, and they are making decisions with this knowledge in mind. Remember, Iran’s victory condition is defiant survival.
