Durov Arrest comments 1. Global messaging apps with serious privacy...

Some suggest playing off the Great Powers against each other in order to give space to privacy and free speech. For instance, have President Trump (if he wins) withdraw NATO protections from countries that don't have a 1A type Constitutional provision, because a guy who called for criminalizing the burning of the American flag deeply appreciates the value of speech speech. Or perhaps do as Durov is alleged to have done, and open up Telegram to the FSB in return for sanctuary in Russia (though if true that would make his flight to France quite inexplicable). Problem is, none of this is going to work over the long-term, even beyond the sordid moral compromises that they necessarily entail, and which taint free speech and privacy as ideals in the eyes of the normie masses by association.
