Izuku is easy to love. He's kind, fierce, can't ignore someone in...

But for Katsuki, it's hard.
Because his version of love's too broken for someone like Deku.
#BKDK #BakuDeku
But as they get older, and Izuku finds his way deeper into Katsuki's life, the affection breaks through his strongest barriers.
And people don't get it.
"Fuck no." He ignores the tremor in his arm at the thought. "That shit's staying buried for life. Ain't gonna do us any good."
"What's that mean?"
They don't think about what happens if 'happily ever after' doesn't last forever. And Katsuki can't risk losing Izuku once the shine fades.
Katsuki focuses on the other things to live for; his job, the hero rankings, his idiot squad, trying to finally get that rematch from IcyHot.
But of course, Deku's a pain in the ass.
He never hesitates to cry, to shout, to smile or show fear. Feelings don't bother him.
So when he loves, it's like a giant beam of light from his freckled cheeks.
But there's a difference between how the nerd looks at All Might or other heros and how Izuku looks at him.
Frogger asks to switch shifts so his matches Izuku's, while IcyHot bluntly questions his 'sex type' next to a flushed nerd choking on his lunch. Glasses even tries to brag about Deku's gained hero skills.
But the worst is her.
He scoffs and swirls his drink, makes sure the alcohol doesn't tempt his mouth. "No clue what you're talking about."
"Deku loves you." She's just as ruthless as she was in school.
"Not like you." A hand touches his bicep, feeling like a punch despite how soft she speaks. "Never like you, Bakugo."
Her knowing eyes piss him off.
"Tell him you feel the same."
"Who says I do?" A younger him would threaten to blast her for being nosy, but age and respect keeps the attack on his lips. "Just cause I tolerate him now-"
He narrows his eyes. "And he still ain't."
"Really? Then how can you give him your life without any fear, but not your heart?" She asks, and his jaw snaps shut.
Death doesn't scare him nearly as much as a world without Izuku in it.
Letting his body move on its own is...easy.
What he controls is how he manages that growing love. Be selfish and demand its reciprocation, or let it silently linger.
Even though he's still set on never telling Izuku the truth, he lets his annoying affection seep out in other non-verbal ways.
Izuku hates shift reviews at the end of their patrols, so Katsuki barks at the idiot to 'go away' so he can write them alone.
Anytime he sees the discusting energy drink Deku loves, he buys six.
He sees Tails getting Invisiline a necklace she parades around all shift, watches Shitty Hair surprise Raccoon Eyes with a bouquet the size of her head.
Hell, even Dunce Face makes mix tapes for Ears.
He wants to say the hag's terrible at romance, but... she cards fingers through the old man's hair when passing, brags about his promotion at work.
Maybe he's right keeping his feelings locked up, after all.
He sends the nerd's worn gloves to Pink Dreads fix on his day off. Uses a fireman carry to drag his idiot from the office when a tough mission makes Deku overwork himself.
Its nothing big.
The love he holds in his messed up heart doesn't look like any of that.
Would he want public and loud, like Senpai with his spiky-haired boyfriend?
Or does he like softer, more intimate vows, like IcyHot's weird soba sharing with Tape Arms?
The nightmare hits on, of course, Valentine's Day.
He doesn't know if its a blessing or a curse not working with Izuku on the day full of pink hearts and confessions.
But the holiday doesn't stop crime.
After the shitty shift, he's tired, bleeding, covered in gross fluids from the villain he fought. He just wants to go home to sleep.
But then he sees it.
Katsuki needs to blinks twice to realize the heart shape implies its chocolate.
There's flowers and a stuffed animal.
Except one glance at the presentation makes Katsuki's blood run hot.
Because this... isn't for Izuku.
"Ka-Kacchan?"
"Shut up." He glares at the nerd before turning back to his target.
But he doesn't know Izuku.
"The nerd likes sunflowers, not roses," he starts, angry he even has to say it. "And he'd pick a stuffed bunny over a bear anyday."
"That shit's fine for the lame conquests you tried before Deku, but he won't eat those. Brand chocolate's too sweet cause he's got sensitive gums. Make your own and use dark chocolate."
"You should." He cuts down the protest and growls. "If you actually fucking loved him, and not his status, you'd wanna know."
"Kacchan!" Izuku grabs his arm and yanks him away. "Sorry, Maki, we- we have to go. You should share that with your friends. Bye!"
"Kacchan, wh-what was all that?"
"You weren't gonna tell him!" Katsuki says, grimacing. "You'd just accept it. That pisses me off."
"I'm mad that asshole thinks love is corny flowers and some shitty chocolate you won't even eat!"
"No," Izuku steps closer. "That's not what I mean."
Instead, the nerd peers up, speaking softly. "Why do you care if that guy doesn't actually love me?"
"What kind of question is that?!"
The sad green gaze freezes him faster than IcyHot's quirk. "You knew those answers."
"About the sunflowers," Deku sounds desperate. "Mina brought some to my hospital room after you left."
"So what?" He asks, but Izuku's not done.
"And the bunny socks left on my bed for my birthday-"
"Shut up." Katsuki grows panicked. This isn't happening.
Izuku's arms tremble enough to shake the metal against Katsuki's back. His stomach turns inside out at Deku's realization.
"You knew everything about me."
'The Bakugo I know isn't a coward.'
Round Cheeks's words force his lips to move. "Because I love you! I have always loved you."
Deku's mouth drops open, but he isn't done.
Izuku's reaction is almost pathetic, the flood of tears and wobbly smile taking over his face in seconds. He doesn't try to wipe away any of the evidence, hands busy cupping Katsuki's jaw.
Despite his scoff, something wet catches his throat. "Yeah."
"Do you hate it?" The question makes him frown. Izuku looks away. "Loving me?"
"You looked upset admitting it." Izuku's thumb brushes his cheek nervously.
Katsuki won't let him blame himself. "Because you deserve to be loved right. Not... how I do it."
"Kacchan, you-" A sob breaks up Deku's fond words. "You love me exactly how I want to be loved."
Everything's messy, hands misplaced and teeth bumping into each other from unknown territory. But he finds he doesn't care about the imperfections.
Izuku, known for being a crybaby, doesn't care, happy to squish Katsuki's cheeks in his palms. "I love you, too. Sorry I didn't tell you before about my feelings-"
"Oh, I guess so." Despite Katsuki's snark, Deku only smiles wider. "But you did too... in your own Kacchan way."
The optimistic comment stuns him into silence.
"Kinda hard not to pick up on your shadow's habits," he mumbles while pulling him closer.
"You're never gonna shut up about that, huh?" He can't regret it when watching Izuku laugh and bury into his neck.
And maybe his way of love isn't so broken afterall.
