At sixteen, Izuku's main concern should be school, friends, figuring out what he wants to be in life.

Or thats what the shows he watches as a kid says.

Instead, Izuku sits in the UA dorm the night before an oncoming war and wishes for something... normal.

Izuku's never driven a car. He thought he'd have time, can close his eyes and almost imagine his mother's scared tone when he goes too fast.

Outside of a school internship, Izuku never got a job. Being a hero is his dream career, but shouldn't he do something lame before that?
3
The one that flushes his cheeks and makes his heart ache the most is that he never had a real relationship. Izuku has so much love to give, thinks maybe he could figure out how to be a good partner.

But he wasn't given a chance to explore what love really is. What he feels for-
4
A knock makes Izuku jump on his bed, morose thoughts dispersing like smoke. Before he can even offer a greeting, his door opens, and red eyes he's been watching since he was a kid appear.

"Kacchan?" He blinks, arms relaxing around the ball he's curled himself into. "What are-"
5
"Stop being so loud." Katsuki looks too casual entering the room, hand in his pocket and shoulders lax. He shuts the door quietly, the only recognition of how late it is. "Just making sure you didn't run again."

"I wouldn't do that," he answers, though he thinks Katsuki knows.
6
Instead of replying, Katsuki crosses the floor, doesn't ask when climbing onto the bed. He sits close enough for their shoulders to brush.

"You've been a shaking mess all night."

Katsuki frames his concern like an insult. Izuku mumbles against his arms on his knees. "Sorry."
7
"Tch." Silence only lingers for a heartbeat. "We're gonna win, Izuku."

"I know." He doesn't, not really. He thought they'd win the last time, and everyone suffered. But when Katsuki says things, he always believes him. Katsuki's his safe space.

"So then where's your head at?"
8
"Nothing, I just..." Shame fills his stomach when the truth comes out. "There's so many things I haven't been able to do."

"Hah? After we save the world, you'll get to be a pro-hero and watch me become number one-"

"I didn't mean that." His socks curl in the sheets "I meant..."
9
A sharp elbow digs into his side. "Spit it out, Nerd."

"I-I've never held someone's hand!"

He buries his face in his forearms, embarassed.

"Not romantically, at least. I've never been asked to dance, been told I'm pretty. Never heard a confession, never... been kissed."
10
"So what?" Katsuki asks, and Izuku's heart aches at the dismissal. "Just do that shit after we kick the villains's asses."

"Except what if we don't all make it?" Izuku says what nobody talks about. "What if the one I'm meant to be with... or me. What if I die before I can?"
11
"You're not dying." A tug on his hair makes Izuku yelp and look up, wincing at how angry Katsuki looks. "What the hell is that kind of mentality? You think I'm not strong enough to keep you safe?"

"Of course you are," Izuku answers without hesitation. "Kacchan's the best."
12
"Then shut up with the rambling. You'll get your dumb happy ending with Pink Cheeks-"

"Ochaco? No, we're not like that-"

"Then whatever dumb girl you're obviously thinking about-"

"It's not a girl!" He grabs the wrist holding his hair while staring Katsuki down. "I...y-you..."
13
The room's quiet and he shakes from the confession. If it wasnt Katsuki, Izuku might hope his emotions wouldn't radiate from his pink cheeks.

But Katsuki knows him. Learns his tells, his secrets. Understands him in a way that transcends words.

Izuku's heart never had a chance.
14
The once wide gaze slowly eases, Katsuki's lips lacking a smile or a scowl. Izuku closes his eyes tight, feels tears building up.

It wasn't fair to reveal this before the biggest fight of their lives. But his heart's heavy, his soul's tired, and there's no promise of tomorrow.
15
Still, he apologizes. "Sorry, that wasn't meant to-"

"Shut up." The soft tone reminds him of Katsuki's rain apology. Before his mind swells with regret, the hand in his hair releases, shakes Izuku's touch off his wrist.

But then, soft fingers link through his crooked ones.
16
His eyes open when the touch doesn't crush his bones, stays gentle despite how dangerous the hand holding his is. Unsure of what's happening, Izuku glances up, his own throat drying.

Maybe he knows Katsuki too well, too, because the glare only makes his heart skip. "Move."
17
"O-Okay." Despite the demand, Katuski scoots off the bed first, their touch never breaking when he helps Izuku crawl across his crumpled sheets.

Two pairs of socked feet hit the wood floor, and he's led silently into the middle of the room. They never move this slowly together.
18
Katsuki scans his room like they're on a mission.

"Where's your phone?" The sudden introduction of his voice into the night air makes Izuku's fingers squeeze his.

"Oh, um..." Its hard grabbing the opposite pocket with his weaker hand.

But he's not dropping Katsuki's hold.
19
Once the device is handed over, Katsuki puts in a password he shouldn't know and scoffs at whatever he finds. "Your music sucks."

He wants to argue its personal choice, but the soft melody of a track he's never heard fills the air. Despite the rock undertone, it's still pretty.
20
Before the first raspy lyrics are sung, Katsuki yanks him closer and huffs. "I'm not doing this to some sappy love song."

"This...?" A hot palm on the bottom of his spine and flushed cheeks is the only response he gets, but its enough to click in his mind. "Kacchan, you don't-"
21
"I know." Snapped out like an insult, Katsuki glares at the wall like it personally offends him.

Izuku feels the tremble in the tightened grip on his hand. For a second, he remembers Katsuki's the same age as him. And though he talks big, maybe he's... also nervous to miss out.
22
It's no longer just about living out Izuku's desperate wish to be a normal teenager in love. His desire to give Katsuki his own moment of escape washes away his fear of rejection.

What if this is all they get? Does he want to let nerves of the future stop this moment right now?
23
He reaches up, refuses to let his anxiety stop him from feeling the crisp hair on Katuski's nape under his fingertips. He presses his plam flat on the back of his strong neck, leads their entwined touch to rest on his hip.

"I'm... a bad dancer," he admits in a laughed whisper.
24
Katsuki doesn't look down at him, but pulls him close enough to start a simple sway. "Then follow me, idiot."

"I always do." Sure this won't ever leave the room, Izuku lays his forehead on the shoulder that carries too much weight for someone so young. "I always will, Kacchan."
25
"Tch."

Their feet slip on the floor, and he's not sure how to follow the rhythm changes. He listens to the lyrics of someone wanting just one person to understand the true identity of the person singing. To see him. Thinks maybe Katsuki picked it on purpose.

"I don't buy it."
26
"Huh?" He doesn't lift his head, but tilts it to peer up.

Katsuki's already looking at him. "You're really telling me none of your extras have said you're... not ugly?"

"Oh." He licks his lower lip. "Well, yeah. But it feels different from... from certain people, you know?"
27
"How would I know?" Katsuki counters just to be argumentative.

"Because it's obvious. Everyone knows you're pretty."

The world's told Katsuki how handsome he is since they were little. Except from the little fumble in their movements at his comment, Katsuki acts surprised.
28
Izuku frowns, thinks of his own praise. Makes him realize something eye-opening. Out of all the compliments that flutter in his head throughout the years, he's never let this one slip.

But they're on unpromised time, so Izuku presses on. "You've always been beautiful to me."
29
He loves the burst of color of Katsuki's skin, sees his mouth snarl back to hurl a defensive insult. But Izuku squeezes his hand and steps closer, his foot planted between both of Katsuki's.

The hand on Katsuki's nape swings around to cup a warm cheek. "My Kacchan's amazing."
30
"What the hell..." Katuski turns his face to mutter into the damaged palm. "I thought you wanted me to say that shit?"

"You don't have to." Because Izuku knows affection isn't easy for him. "Only if you mean it."

Red eyes narrow. "You're pretty, Deku. I obviously mean it."
31
It's as wonderful as he imagines, knees going weak when compliments fill his ears.

"I hate how you got em, but your scars are badass. I'm treating your wounds after tomorrow, cause your first aid is shit. And don't you dare fuck up your freckles. That face is mine, got it?"
32
Izuku's breathless when he nods. His mind checks off each of the things he blurted out before. Because there's only two things left he wanted.

Both stop moving as the song ends. Izuku tries to read Katsuki's face when feeling the muscles tensing in the jaw under his touch.
33
And maybe its not fair to make Katsuki do everything on his own. Because the type of happy ending Izuku wants is two souls on equal levels of strength and love.

Knowing his racing heart may stop beating tomorrow makes his words easier to say. "I want to share crepes with you."
34
Katsuki blinks, but Izuku can't stop. "And I want to go to the amusmant park together. Keep holding your hand, and- Kacchan, I don't want to watch you from afar anymore. Because..."

He knows his eyes are teary despite his smile. "Because love feels so much better by your side-"
35
Izuku doesn't expect the rushed kiss that pours into his lips, still parted from his confession.

Katsuki's explosive feelings buzz in his mouth. He paints his confession with his tongue against Izuku's. Desperate hands grab his face, like-

Like they're just two teens in love.
36
But the fire smothes slowly when bruises bloom on their mouths, the kisses softening until they're barely brushing lips. Izuku isn't sure when his hands dig into Katsuki's back, or how long ago they start crying.

"You tell me that shit after we win," Katsuki says like a threat.
37
He nods before he's crushed into a firm chest, protective arms laying like shields over his spine.

Hot breath hits his temple. "We're not dying, you got it?"

His mind flashes through all the times Katsuki's risked his life for Izuku. Knows he'll do it again given the choice.
38
He hugs Katsuki tighter. "Stay here tonight?"

"To what, cuddle? Ugh." Katsuki shoves them toward the bed. "You're a stage-five clinger."

Izuku takes a final chance. He yanks Katsuki on the bed to lay over his chest. "But you love me, right?"

Katsuki's nose scrunches. "Sadly."
39
"Kacchan-"

He's cut off by a kiss, lacking the fear of death and finality of the night. Katsuki sweeps in a breath of hope, of determination and strength.

Reminds Izuku why he's his symbol of victory.

"Sleep." A nip snags his lip. "We've got a victory date to plan tomorrow."
40
The battle hasn't gotten any less daunting. They could still fail. People will probably die.

But under blankets warmed by his favorite hero, he has more to fight for now.

Izuku doesn't mind saving the world being his version of normal... so long as he has Katsuki by his side.
