Pecuniary derives from "Pecus" from Proto-Indo European "Pekos" for Cattle-- which in Latin becomes the general term for "Capital" & "Wealth" -- which is why you see Cattle Gods, Bull Gods, representing Mammon/Moloch/Capital. The Old English word was "feoh" thus "feudalism"
2
The word "Cattle" actually comes later, after "Pecunia" meaning "wealth in livestock/goods" becomes "Capitale" on paper (Kaput-- meaning "Head"-- the monetary figure becomes the "head" ie: representative of the goods/stock themselves). Capitale -> Chatel -> Cattle
3
"[The term capital] made its first appearance in medieval Latin as an adjective capitalis (from caput, head) modifying the word pars, to designate the principal sum of a money loan." -- ie: "Capital" is originally "The Principal Sum of Cattle" -- the number of cows.
4
Capital in this way is created by Pastoralists & not by Agricultural Civilizations (Megamachinic Industrial Production) -- the Pastoralist has "Liquid Capital" in his movable herd of cattle. The Modern Pastoralist's cattle is his "stock holdings" & his "Capital" is liquid.
5
These Indo-European "CowBoys" of Cattle-ism understood their primary value was in "property claims" to liquid livestock-- they didn't so much control territories so much as they maintained their "stocks" against all competing property claims.
6
This does not produce a Civilization, but it does produce the Liberal Subject through Feudalism (which is the Indo-European Caste Hierarchy, ultimately spawned from the Cattle Worshipping Brahmins). It only becomes civilizational when the pure abstraction of capital emerges.
7
When "Everything becomes cattle/capital" & exchanged as such, this creates industrialization. People diversity in "types of cattle/stocks" & monopolizing one of them, to take advantage of the gaps in "exchange value" between all these "new types of cattle"
8
A "Magnate" means "Person with large amounts of stock/capital" such that one "owned many field" (the origin of "magna" as "great" comes form it meaning "large" in scope like land)-- it becomes abstracted from the specific commodity of the cow, & we now have "Oil Magnates" etc.
9
It's not until Early Modernity that North/Western Europe receives a Civilization. The "Dark Ages" are literally nothing but "Gang Warfare" or "Cartel Warfare" -- the average Duke is no different from the average Cartel Boss.
10
This is my obsession with the Tudors-- the Tudors created the "English Speaking Civilization" that we participate in-- it is a "free market" coordinated by psychodramatic cosmopolitical theater alone. The only thing keeping it together is the "Story we Tell Ourselves."
11
Before the Tudors, are you really a "Patriot" or are you just a Baron? After the Tudors, your relation to the State is determinative of your individual property holdings. The Nation/Empire is now a "Collective Project" & not "the Private Property of a Baron"
12
This is why the English were pioneers in remodeling the State-itself-- all the English revolutions & civil wars from the Tudors onward end up having World Historical Consequences-- Cromwell directly leads to Stalin & Mao.
