#taekookau Given the opportunity to travel to the past, Taehyung...

– HAPPY ENDING
– social media & written
– it’s a little sad 😁
– small details are important
- time stamps are not important unless stated otherwise
– book passages won’t have filtered pages bc i know it’s hard for some people to read over
ok let’s start ⏳
His father is already heading for the main door, breaking the first task the book gave him.
His father sends him a weird look and begins to nod slowly. Without saying anything, he turns around and goes back to his office, where he probably is unpacking.
Jungkook opens the door.
Jungkook’s face breaks into a furious blush. His bunny socks become embarrassing and his heart pounds against his chest.
“Hi, how may I help you?”
“I saw your family just moved in. I brought you some welcome cookies.”
“Thanks,” he croaks out. “I’m—uh, Jungkook.”
He smiles, “I’m Kim Taehyung. Nice to meet you.”
"Hey," Taehyung greets as he walks up to him.
"Hey!"
"I'll follow you anywhere," he says. Taehyung flashes a smile, tilts his head to the side. Very pretty.
The back of his body neglects the light from the sun, creating a halo around his body. It makes him stand out, brighter and way more refreshing than the natural light. Truth is, the light of the sun will always find an angel to kiss.
"I'm never nervous," Jungkook says. A pumped chest is supposed to protect him, but it only proves Taehyung even further.
"It's fine if you are."
The book, however, causes catastrophe in his mind.
Being aware of what is to come is ten times scarier than not knowing anything at all.
Evermore said Taehyung felt like he would faint the whole time they walked beside each other. It said his hands rained with sweat, so he would try not to touch Jungkook at all. "A nervous wreck" was written and underlined.
At least not yet.
He's not wiping his hands on his jeans as said. He stares right at Jungkook's eyes with confidence.
"Depends what type of nerves you're talking about." It depends, yet Taehyung feels none. Jungkook is the only one trembling here. "Come on, let's have fun."
Taehyung's head tilts to the side. Jungkook feels like he's choking and running out of breath.
Now, with dark hair contouring and sharpening his face, Jungkook believes he's a more of a sculpture.
Jungkook's lips fall open, a stutter reflecting on his jittering hands. Taehyung frowns and runs a hand through his hair.
"No, Taehyung." Jungkook scrambles to his feet, all while shaking his head, looking like madman. "It looks—looks really good. I promise."
"You like it?"
Evermore states Taehyung fancies him, but how much?
"It's softer," he says. Long fingers wrap around Jungkook's wrists, and his arm is lifted, for the tip of his fingers to touch.
"I like it," Jungkook comments. "It suits you. Even so, my opinion is not important."
"Of course it is. It's you."
There's a perfect beat that goes alongside his drumming soul. He could probably compose a melody by using the same rhythm of his heart on a piano.
A wide smile paints itself on Taehyung's face. He elbows Jungkook playfully and nods over to the door. "Thanks, Kook. Ready to go?"
"Yeah."
"Thank you for accompanying me," Taehyung says from behind.
Taehyung chuckles, moves forward. He looks up at him from the bottom of the three steps, one hand inside his pocket, while the other holds the concrete pole.
"I'm not?"
"You are," Taehyung laughs, points at him. "Your eyes are round like the first time we went out. They're glassy."
Jungkook scoffs, rolls his eyes. "That makes no sense. You make no sense. It's the contact lenses. They make my eyes look weird."
"Yeah, sure," Jungkook says while already turning around to unlock the front door. He waves goodbye and steps inside. "Goodnight, Taehyung."
Taehyung raises his hand and smiles widely while saying, "Sweet night, Kook."
Jungkook doesn't care.
"Sorry to interrupt," he mumbles softly, "but I need to head home. It's urgent."
"It's alright, thank you. It was nice to meet you." He throws his back over his shoulder and stands up. "Bye, Taehyung."
"Jungkook, hold on," Taehyung calls from behind.
"If you need anything text me, alright?"
"Yeah, you too." He means it, but doesn't feel it.
Evermore is shy, poetic and inspirational. This Taehyung isn't.
But knowing /he/ should be who makes Taehyung smile hurts like a stab on the stomach, dagger left there until he cries.
In another reality Taehyung was happy because of /him./ Sadly, right now it is not his turn.
Taehyung stands up from the sidewalk and pockets his phone, then lifts his own bag. “Ready?” he asks.
“If you are.”
“I always am.”
They bike off with the uncomfortable weight of their bags, neither using backpacks because they refuse to use a different sack.
It takes twenty minutes or so to arrive. The bikes are left hidden behind trees, but the adventure doesn’t end there. They sneak through the never ending green, jump over some flowers they don’t want to ruin.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Taehyung laughs. He slaps Jungkook on the arm and takes his wrist, pulling him to walk faster. “Come on, we’re almost there.”
Jungkook has lived in many places, but today he finally acknowledges how beautiful the world can be if he gives it a chance.
“We can get in?”
“Yes!”
By the time Jungkook is done with his sunscreen, Taehyung is already swimming.
Taehyung, on the other hand, doesn’t have a shirt on. He doesn't get burned easily.
He jumps into the pond and sighs deeply, allowing the singing of the water to calm him down. He needed this, needed to take a swim.
“So do you.”
“I’ve been fine, though. You were a little off yesterday.”
Jungkook knows he probably wasn’t fine. After all, he went out with a boy he wishes to be saved from, but Jungkook can’t say this.
Taehyung nods and moves around, swims a little bit closer, leaving a respectful space between them.
“Do you write?”
Taehyung’s eyes widen immediately, and he stutters out his confirmation.
“I guessed.”
“I’ve never told anyone,” Taehyung says. He looks away with a blush. “The things I write are very private. I have three journals filled up. Started a new one recently. I would never allow anyone to read, though.”
“I really don’t,” he chuckles. “I just like to scribble everything down because I don’t like to forget. From time to time I express my feelings.”
“How do you express them?”
“I just...write. I don’t care if it’s not a correct poem. I just do it.”
“Tae, I’ll get out for a bit.”
“Sure! I’ll be in here.”
"Pretty right?" Taehyung asks, speaking over some loud teens.
"I'm here too," Taehyung teases. "You're not completely alone with them."
"But you're not with me all the time, Tae."
"Your eyes reflect the galaxy."
Jungkook snaps rigid at the compliment and he shakes his head.
"Just... you see stars beyond your own," Taehyung replies, smiling sweetly all over again.
Oh, but Jungkook isn't smiling. "Don't say that," he scolds and sits up. "Not when you have a boyfriend."
"Why not? Friends compliment—"
"Not like that."
"I'm sorry," Taehyung whispers. "I just wanted to make you smile."
"I know, and you do," he answers. "But not like this."
Getting to know each other as friends feels relaxing. Maybe that is why their relationship failed in the past.
There are tears on his eyelashes, nose red and runny. He takes a shuddery breath and blows into the tissue.
He flips to today's diary entry and begins to read. Encountering the word "kiss" on the page has him closing his eyes.
A blow lands on the door, causing him to jump.
The world was already crashing, but stepping out of the bathroom is the hammer on the glass. A hurtful whimper leaves his lips.
/His/ rose.
And /his/ kiss.
Those are /his./
He worked so hard, only for all his excitement to be taken away from him.
He stops through every page, finding a few comments, a few questions, all from Evermore Taehyung.
It's open at the last page, the messiest one Jungkook has come upon on. He takes a shaky breath and stands up.
The tip of his finger touches the title and he begins to read the passage. His eyes run over every word, side to side, up and down.
"So? Are we heading for the park?"
"Yeah, let's go."
"Yes, yes, don't worry, I'm—I'm amazing. Don't worry about me."
"Are... you sure?"
Another hand runs through his hair. He nods rapidly, repeating himself.
"If you say so."
Taehyung throws his head back with frustration and flops down in front of the younger boy. "Actually, I need to tell you something."
Point is, he's perfect.
"Take your time."
"You see," he flashes a quick glance at Jungkook, then back at the ground. "I kind of—"
Jungkook snorts and mumbles, "I am aware."
"I didn't love him, Jungkook. I couldn't because I fell in love with someone else. Someone better."
"Yeah," Taehyung sighs. His hand holds on tighter onto Jungkook's. "I wrote it all down—the love I feel for this person. I've loved him ever since he opened the door, ever since I saw those ridiculous bunny socks on his feet."
Jungkook's breath hitches. "It's—oh."
"I do." And when those two words leave Taehyung's lips, one single tear runs down Jungkook's cheek. "No, no, why are you crying?"
"You really do?"
"I do. I—I love you, Jungkook. Why are you sad?"
"I don't know."
"It's ok if you don't like me back."
"That's not it at all."
Of course he /likes/ this Taehyung, of course he does.
However, there is a /but./
"I'm supposed to love you back," he whimpers.
"You're supposed to—what? What do you mean?"
"I've—why don't I love you, Tae? I'm supposed to love you!"
"You don't have to love me, Kook. It's fine, yeah? I promise it's ok. We can still be friends."
"T-There's someone else?" Taehyung whispers with an aching heart.
"I don't know if it's someone else."
"Kook, you're confusing me."
"I'm sorry. I'm confused too, Tae. You have no idea."
Like is for him, but not love.
Yet, he watches this Taehyung and feels himself fluster.
"I'll give you everything you ask for," Taehyung says.
"Will you really?"
"We can continue to be who we were."
"Then... can you hug me?" Taehyung chuckles with a nod. He scoots closer and does so.
He can't help but think that maybe this is Taehyung's heartbreak. He already had his own, and now it is Taehyung's turn.
All because the universe loves to play.
Now the sunset leaves drop like rain.
As the book had once said, it falls into a grey November, but not because of a broken heart.
He feels happy, but there's this tingly feeling that won't allow him to tell Taehyung that he likes him.
At this point he simply allows himself to enjoy the moment.
For that day, Jungkook cannot wait.
Taehyung moves to stand up, but Jungkook beats him to it and hugs him from behind the chair, landing a wet kiss on his cheek. Taehyung greets him and pulls another chair for him to sit down.
"What are you doing?" he asks.
"Nothing much. You?"
"What is that?" Jungkook points at Taehyung's arms "What are you hiding?"
"Oh, come on! Tell me!"
"It's embarrassing!" the smile on his lips has Jungkook feeling weak. His whole face goes red with a blush as he slaps his arm.
Taehyung sighs and leans back, exposing a corner of the secret object. "It's my journal. Look away and let me write." Taehyung takes his pen and opens the journal. Jungkook tries to peek, but Taehyung pushes him away playfully.
But then Jungkook sees the journal correctly and he goes stiff.
His head has been playing with who is who, separating the same body and mind into different men.
Jungkook sees it—Evermore.
"Is it?" Taehyung asks and closes it. He shows it off. Jungkook doesn't even need to see it because he knows it by memory.
"What do you write about?"
"That's top secret. I can't tell you."
"Do you write about me?" he asks in a bliss.
Taehyung's eyes widen. "I—I do. I write about us, about our time together. How did you know?"
"Yeah. I don't want to forget about it ever. I leave a few pages blank just incase I forget anything important. You're all I write about now; about how much I feel for you."
“You write about your love for me?"
"I do."
Taehyung chuckles and lands a kiss on Jungkook's temple. He whispers, "You've told me, but you can't say that because you haven't read it."
Right. "I stand by it."
"You're cute," he says and this time kisses him on the cheek. "Let's go inside."
Jungkook only cares for the boy a few houses down.
Staring out an open window is Taehyung. He notices him, slams the window shut and runs down.
"Jungkook, what are you—"
"I love you."
The words fly out, defeating the rain.
"I love you so much," Jungkook says a little bit louder. "I'm so sorry it took so long. I've loved you for the longest time, I was just confused."
"No," Jungkook huffs, "/you/ come here." He takes his arm, forces him to drop the towel, and pulls him under the rain.
"We'll get sick—"
All those times Jungkook said he couldn't wait to kiss Taehyung, this is exactly what he meant; veins buzzing with /love./
Taehyung chuckles against his lips and nods. "Good to know." His hand pets the front of Jungkook's hair, removing the dripping wet strands.
"I love you, Taehyung."
"I love you too, honey."
"You again," Taehyung says with a smile. "Writing promises."
"Really? Like which?"
"That I'm gonna to marry you someday."
The breakup flashback that never left Jungkook's mind sits there, watching his every move. He doesn't care.
Jungkook chuckles and carefully closes the book on Taehyung's lap. "We don't need to promise anything now."
"Let's put it away," Jungkook says. "We don't need it anymore."
"I used to think so too," he mumbles. "You don't need the book anymore, Tae. You have me and you will never lose me."
"Hm. Do you promise?"
Jungkook was right; the light of the sun will always find an angel to kiss. This time the sun kisses them both.
Jungkook hasn't opened that hidden book in years. Taehyung even offered him to read the his current writes, plus the ones he finished.
