I'm 63. I'm the oldest person in my office by 20 years. In...

In September, our new manager arrived. He's 26.
In his first team meeting, he announced new software. Everything would move to it in two weeks.
Then he looked straight at me.
He said, "Anyone who can't learn it in time might want to think about stepping aside."
Everyone knew who he meant.
I went home and didn't sleep.
That weekend, I bought a $40 online course. I sat at my kitchen table for 19 hours. Saturday and Sunday.
On Monday, he stood up to present the new software to the directors.
It crashed. Twice.
He went red in the face. He looked around the room.
Then he looked at me...
He stepped aside.
I fixed it in about two minutes. Then I finished the presentation for him.
The directors asked a lot of questions. I knew the answers.
Afterwards, he came to my desk. He didn't say anything for a while.
Then he said, "I'm sorry about what I said."
I said, "I know. That's why I did the course."
He asked if I'd train the team. All 14 of them. Including him.
I said yes.
Now he calls me before every big meeting.
Last week, he asked me what I'd do if I were him.
I said, "Spend $40 and a weekend before you make a speech."
