So basically, what this person confirms is that you don't ACTUALLY buy a ready model from them. You just rent it.

People like that find the idea of you actually owning the model and it's files abhorrent that they'll refuse to work with you.

Good. That program exists just for this reason so none of us will have to deal with these exploiting "artists".

It's hard to explain, but you definitely can own a model, and do whatever you want with it, but it comes with extra cost.
Also, depending on what you'd do with it, if it breaks their TOS, the artist would probably ask you not to credit them, or not want to be associated with it.

Aracaine@AracaUwU
These ppl (you?) already charge full purchase price & then "some" (a massive amount).

Yet want renting conditions? You want renting conditions then price should basically be a few bucks/month. Thats how renting works.

All this just shows how entitled these "artists" have gotten

You're confusing licensing with ownership. A base commission gives you a permanent personal license. Using it for profit requires a commercial fee.

It isn't 'renting' since you keep the piece forever. For larger transactions, most artists are happy to work out payment plans.
@Comrade_Del
Comrade Del ☢️ Gasmask Mothman@Comrade_Del
But you literally said that in order to own a model, as in get the actually files for it, you just need to pay extra.

You already pay extra for the commercial licensing and you don't even get the files. The fact that you're saying that paying extra on top of the extra you're already paying is more than fine is bloody outrageous.
@KSRG888
kisaragi@KSRG888
When you pay base price, you get the model files needed to stream. They charge you extra for commercial fees, and a different fee for raw editable source files.
Handing over raw source code or working project files is a full IP buyout in any industry, not standard usage.
@Comrade_Del
Comrade Del ☢️ Gasmask Mothman@Comrade_Del
Then you don't really own the model!

Thank you for confirming it!

Again, why is anyone surprised that people are so eager to jump on the AI and conversion programs?
@Comrade_Del
Comrade Del ☢️ Gasmask Mothman@Comrade_Del
Also I absolutely LOVE that you also confirm that riggers view that the IP of the Vtuber belongs to them too.

The fucking hubris.
@KSRG888
kisaragi@KSRG888
You're so angry, you're confusing my use of the IP buyout analogy. lol

Your VTuber's IP and identity are 100% yours. The rigger's proprietary parameter code is theirs.
@Comrade_Del

I'm angry about the fact that there is a blatant monopoly that forces the clients into using only one person that is practically designed to squeeze out more money out of them.
@KSRG888
kisaragi@KSRG888
What monopoly? You own your character design and .psd file. You can take your character to another rigger whenever you want.

Confusing proprietary project files with a monopoly just proves you don't understand how commissioning works.
@Comrade_Del
Comrade Del ☢️ Gasmask Mothman@Comrade_Del
You realize that any other rigger can't do shit with the psd, file, right? You need the cmo3 file to actually be able to do anything with the model.

A file that you are NOT provided with. So if you actually want to do anything with the model, you are, effectively, FORCED to go to the same rigger.

And your solution is to go to another rigger and be forced to pay for a whole new rigging.

Really, the whole program that lets people convert the files and the AI rigging program are made because of people who think like you.
@KSRG888
kisaragi@KSRG888
I'm aware of the technical limitations. Without the .cmo3, a new rigger has to re-rig.

But that just proves why a rigger's .cmo3 files are proprietary source code. Wanting their uncompiled work for free to bypass labor costs isn't standard in any digital industry.
