HABITS I STOLE FROM ADHD ADULTS WHO ACTUALLY HAVE THEIR LIFE...

Not the willpower people who burn out by March. The ones who quietly rigged their whole life so the brain can't sabotage it.
Save this. Number 6 is the one nobody talks about.
Keys, wallet, headphones, the one charger, all in a single bowl or hook. Nothing else allowed there.
They stopped doing the 6am phone-flashlight key hunt years ago. Not because they got tidy. Because they gave the important stuff exactly one home and defended it.
Idea at a red light? Text it to themselves. Thing to buy? Text. The whole thread is chaos and that's the point. It's the one inbox they actually open.
Notes apps get forgotten. A text notification doesn't. They hacked their own brain with its own dopamine.
"I'll deal with it later" is how the chair pile is born. So they finish the loop or they don't pick it up. The jacket goes on the hook, not the chair. Cup goes in the dishwasher, not the sink.
One-touch. They learned the second touch never comes.
They know their brain has a window, usually mid-morning, where it actually works. They guard it with their life and put the worst task there.
Spicy take: "do your hardest thing first" is garbage advice for us. Do it during your peak, whenever that lands. For half of us that's 11pm, and that's fine.
Anything with phone-call dread (dentist, bank, rescheduling) gets done in the car, engine off, before they walk in anywhere. No escape, no "later," no 4-day avoidance spiral.
Trapping themselves on purpose is the only thing that beats the freeze.
This is the one nobody admits. They send the slightly-imperfect email. They wear the same 3 outfits. They buy the same groceries every week so there's no decision.
They figured out that perfectionism and paralysis are the same animal. Starve one, you starve both.
Leave 15 minutes early. Set the deadline 2 days before the real one. Keep a spare charger in the bag.
They don't trust future-them to remember, focus, or be on time. So they pre-rescue themselves. It's not pessimism. It's self-respect.
The club, the side gig, the friendship that's all maintenance. They let it go without the guilt essay.
They learned their energy is the actual budget, not their time. And they stopped spending it to look reliable to people who'd drop them in a second.
No 5am routine. No meditation. No 41 -step morning. None of these are about becoming a more disciplined person. Every single one is a trap they set for their own brain, because they stopped expecting it to behave and started outsmarting it instead. That's the actual difference between the ADHD adults drowning and the ones cruising.
