I use Claude all day without hitting my usage limit.

Claude doesn’t count messages — it counts tokens. That means some chats burn through your limit 10× faster than others.

If you want to use Claude all day without running out, use these 9 smart tricks:
2
1. Edit the prompt, don't add follow-ups

Each follow-up message accumulates history and costs more tokens. When Claude misses the mark, click the edit icon on your original message, correct the prompt, and regenerate. Correct the prompt, don't accumulate the chat.

Suggested prompt
← Use the ✏️ icon next to your message to edit it
and press ↵ to regenerate the response.

2. New conversation every 20 messages

Claude rereads the entire history on each turn. Starting from message 30, a simple question can cost 50,000 tokens. Ask it for a summary, copy it, open a new chat, and paste it. Long conversations are expensive.

Suggested Prompt
Summarize the key points of this conversation in 5 concise bullet points, including the essential context, decisions made, and next steps, so I can continue in a new chat.
4
3. Group several questions into one message

Instead of three separate messages, combine them into one. A single turn costs much less than three. The responses are also better because Claude has a full view of the goal.

Suggested Prompt
I need three things from this article:
1. A 3-sentence summary.
2. The 5 main points with bullet points.
3. A social media-optimized headline.
Respond in that order.

4. Upload recurring files to Projects

If you upload the same PDF in multiple chats, Claude counts the tokens each time. Projects caches your files — upload them once and they won't cost you tokens in future conversations.

Suggested Prompt
← Create a Project in the sidebar,
upload your files there and open it every time
you need them. Tokens won't be charged again.

5. Set up memory and custom instructions

Without prior context, you waste 3-5 messages just re-explaining who you are and how you work. Go to Settings → Memory and Preferences and save your role, tone, and preferences just once. Claude will apply them in all chats.

Suggested Prompt
I am [your role]. I work in [sector/company]. I prefer responses [direct/detailed], in Spanish, without unnecessary lists. When you don't have enough context, ask first before responding.

6. Disable the functions you don't use

Web search, research mode, and connectors add tokens to every response, even when they're not needed. If you're writing your own content, disable them. If you didn't consciously activate them, disable them.

Suggested Prompt
← Use the icons next to the text field
to activate/deactivate web search,
tools, and connectors.

7. Use Haiku for Simple Tasks

Quick responses, brainstorming, formatting, and grammar correction don't need a full model. Use Haiku for the small stuff—it's much more cost-effective than Sonnet or Opus. Save the complex models for work that requires them.

Suggested Prompt
Correct the grammar of this paragraph and suggest 3 more concise variants:
[paste your paragraph here]

8. Choose the model based on the task

Haiku: quick responses, formatting, brainstorming.
Sonnet: writing, analysis, code, serious drafts.
Opus: in-depth research, rigorous logic, review of extensive documents. Do not use Opus for Haiku tasks.

Suggested Prompt
Select the model from the menu
next to the text field before sending.
Haiku for drafts, Sonnet for serious work, Opus for complex tasks.

9. Distribute the work across 2-3 daily sessions

Claude operates with a 5-hour window that resets continuously. If you exhaust your limit in a morning session, you won't be able to work until it resets. Break your work into blocks and multiply what you can accomplish in a day.

Suggested Prompt
To maximize: morning session for research/drafts, afternoon for editing/refinement, evening for final review. This way, you use 3 separate 5h windows.
