In reality, there’s probably a ton more work that needs to be happen.
This is one of the biggest skill development misconceptions.
Now it needs to be trained.
Take the same activities that help swimmers learn better breathing and combine them with regularly butterfly swimming.
Week by week, add a little more distance.
Week by week, add a little more fatigue.
It’s this patient, relentless progression that allows swimmers to execute awesome butterfly skills in championship situations.
Simple, not easy.
HOW they’re addressed needs to change.
Humans aren’t great at thinking over long timescales while trying to execute in the moment.
Solution?
Plan out the basic progressions across different developmental groups.
