People love using barbell lifts to assess strength, and that’s fine, to a point. But we can’t forget that strength is just an expression of force, and its value lies in how, when, and where it can be expressed.

If the movement used to assess strength is totally different kinematically and kinetically from the sport skill, then its applicability is low and transfer is limited.

It’s fine to use general strength tests to get a rough idea of an athlete’s output. But movement is specific to movement.

Just because they’re strong in a lift doesn’t mean that strength shows up in sport. Take those #s with a grain of salt & always consider context & transfer
