Many have a reversed understanding of the “relation” between anime (and manga), and the transsexualism of some of its claimed “fans.”

The reason that many transsexuals and proto-transsexuals start “getting into” anime is because many think to themselves that their life is terrible and pointless, and that anime can provide their life with some kind of meaning – without directly taking a sledgehammer to every one of their ideas of self (because they can attempt to ignore when it does; hence why they make such terrible anime fans). Anime doesn’t cause the phenomenon – the reason that failed-males attach themselves to anime is because, from an outside perspective, it appears an easy and passive way to solve their traumatic lack of *sense* of self (typically stolen from them by some kind of childhood abuse). They have no sense of self to match to their ideas of self, and something which provides the joy and beautiful characterisation which anime does, makes anime appear to be an easy and effortless way to replace that void via escapism; they believe that they can merely engage with it on their own terms, hence the terminal and endemic touristic tendencies; they have no respect for the medium, the genre, or the content.

This sometimes happens before the person has even begun to “transition,” but any discussion with them immediately reveals that the tendencies are deepseated; and, even more commonly, it occurs contemporaneously with their ventures into anime (the cause of the misunderstanding — especially common among soylennials, and woodchippergif-Americans — that anime is in some way the cause).

There are cases (primarily from the previous Internet Era; these are increasingly rare) in which people who are interested in anime “fall off the deep end,” so to say; this is primarily because of the candid nature of anime, and its unabashed celebration of Eros, which is unfulfilling in the face of “pоrn addiction” (in the true sense of the term; a warped worldview caused by overconsumption of pоrn, and especially due to an unhealthy view of one’s own sexuality – again, most of these people were abused). It’s a kind of “looking in the mirror and hating what you see” case, caused by an inability to be aroused or emotionally fulfilled by what is clearly an apt depiction of both stimulus and beauty at once; I imagine it would be similar to an Alzheimer’s patient who can no longer put a name to the face he recognises. It should be very telling that these people so often renounce or become critical of their former anime consumption; the same way that aged women often look back on the life-affirming romance tales which they consumed in their youth, and shun its health as “problematic” (I suspect that the estrogenic tendencies induced by transsexual chemical lobotomy are similar to those symptoms caused by SSRIs and birth control in women). Or, on the other hand, they oft attempt to paint their former anime consumption through the lens of their current perversions; hence the terminal “not getting it” which is common to these types, where they still exist – if you are wondering why a newly-“transitioned” anime fan of several years begins posting things which indicate a critical lack of understanding, this is why.

Though, again, these types are a kind of lost breed; more common today is the teenaged failed-male who sees something beautiful and youthful in anime, but “engages” it only in a shallow and passive manner (much the same way they “engage” gender as dresses and hormones) in a failing attempt to cope with a lack of internal psychological cohesion and the lack of an identity which comports with their ideas of self, often while simultaneously trying to cope with their incomplete and trauma-oriented understanding of their own gender, which creates an illusory “correlation.”

All of this applies to manga as well, of course, but the audiovisual stimulation of anime (and the use of colour) means that psychological impact is more immediate.

None of these points are uniquely-astute, and I’m sure most have been made before, but it’s a discussion worth having.
