What is Vibe Coding?

Here's a complete Crash Course for you: 🧵

2024 has changed coding forever.

It gave birth to AI coding models like Claude Sonnet 3.5, GPT 4o that can code better than junior devs.

We saw AI coding tools like Cursor, Windsurf, Bolt, Replit, Lovable etc built on top of AI coding models.

But..
3
The biggest change of all is that it made 'English' the largest coding language of all time.

Now anyone with an idea can code.

So people started coding landing pages, websites, web apps, mobile apps, browser extensions or even browsers.

Until recently this type of coding is given a name by @karpathy - Vibe Coding

"you forget about the code even exists...... Just see tuff, say stuff, run stuff and copy paste stuff, and it mostly works"

Vibe coding has 2 main engines:

1. AI Coding Models

1st: Gemini Pro 2.5 (1M context window, great at one shotting code)

2nd: Claude Sonnet 3.5/3.7 (Best code execution model so far)

3rd: GPT o1 (Best for debugging complex errors, understanding code)

4th: Deepseek v3 (Best open source coding model)
5
2. AI Coding Tools

1st: Windsurf & Cursor (Best AI IDEs for AI coding. Any type of software)

2nd: Replit (Best browser based IDE for MVPs and mobile apps)

3rd: Cline (It turned VS Code into an AI IDE. Great with MCPs)

4th: Bolt .new (Best for setting up projects, building Micro SaaS)

5th: Lovable (Great at designing modern UI & landing pages)

Is vibe coding perfect?

No. It has many flaws like:
- AI models hallucinate.
- 200k max context window for most models.
- Low quality code (if no instructions or rules).
- Code security issues by default.

But all of these issues are manageable. Here's how:

Yes. "Code me a Netflix like application" in one-shot is not possible.

You need to build layer by layer, piece by piece.

You don't need to understand code, but you need to understand coding fundamentals.

What is frontend?
What is backend?
What tech stacks to use for web apps, mobile apps?
How to host, deploy your application.

When you understand the core principles you can code anything with AI and I mean it.

After building 36 projects with AI I realized that to code production ready apps we need to solve "AI hallucinations problem"

So I built @CodeGuidedev

It lets you turn your simple idea into a set of coding documents that form a "knowledge base" for AI.

These docs provide deep context about your idea, tech stack, core features, app flow etc to AI coding models.

This approach minimized AI hallucinations by 85%.

So here's how you can code your first app as a vibe coder.

I've written a detailed post on this recently.

Then you need to understand. How NOT to code with AI.

I've written a detailed post on this too:

I code with AI tools for 6-7 hours daily.

Built over 36 projects in last 12 months.

Truth: "Build me ........... app" in 1 prompt is not possible.

So, here're all the MISTAKES you might be making with AI code:

My take:

Vibe coding made English the best coding language. But that doesn't mean you don't need to understand coding.

The better your understand your stack, code structure, architecture the better your apps will perform.

Vibe coding is no shortcut. It's a new form of code.

TL;DR

Learn basic principles of code so you can prompt better, debug better and build production ready apps with AI.

1. Understand how vibe coding works
2. Understand AI coding tools and AI models
3. Start experimenting aka vibing
