SS document on which runes should be used for grave markings to replace Christian crosses.

The life rune ( ᛉ ) Algiz should be used because they died an "immortal death" defending the fatherland.

Dear Herr Oberst!

"The Reichsführer would be grateful if you would examine the runes on the graves of fallen Waffen-SS men in more detail. I am sending you a picture that you can see, showing that many graves of SS men are decorated with the "Tyr" rune.

The question now arises whether, instead of the death rune, the life rune should be used, since these fallen men died an immortal death for the German Fatherland. It would also be worth considering the addition of the iron cross as a reminder. I would be grateful if I could receive the enclosed picture back."

Heil Hitler!
