History is the real science of science because every science has a history & its history determined its trajectory. You can learn something like algebra without knowing the history of algebra, but the history of algebra is immediately tied to Babylon & the problems of managing an economy, such as doubling rates of interest on debts. Every scientific development is determined by the material historical environment in which these developments are proximate solutions to societal problems. Hunter gatherers have no use for algebra & would never develop it.

So the STEMlord feels that by knowing the method he has grasped the world-itself. “You can’t do differential equations” & smirks— but does he know why differential equations were even developed? That’s not a question on the test & it’s not on the list of skills required for employment— so it’s “useless knowledge.”

“Yes that’s all very poetic. The end of the scholastic world picture & the increased necessity to produce a science of motion & change & fluxions as Newton called them. Very poetic. A good bit of dialogue to provide a character in a science fiction story or something.”
