Taehyung taps the barrel of his gun on the arm of the chair he’s sitting on. His headache is strong, but the matter in front of him, or rather the mole who was caught yesterday is much more important.
“Will you open your mouth or not?”
His voice booms across the mostly empty basement.
His jaw ticks, “Do you wish to d!e?”
“They – they will.”
“Give me a name Jaejun, I’ll make sure that no one will be left to mourn.”
His tone was menacingly low; with his words being delivered in a growl due to the rage consuming him.
“V, leave him for now –”
Namjoon’s advice was cut off by the sound of three gυnsh0ts echoing among the walls of the basement.
Some blo0d spattered on his face, but the mob boss didn’t care. These days he has been giving into his impulses, because each ounce of fury he should be feeling amounts to tenfold during the past month.
As he turns to leave, Taehyung feels a hand on his shoulder. +
His right hand man wasn’t convinced, “Choi Sangtae’s son is still out on the streets, if you can’t get a hold of yourself –”
Namjoon’s annoyance had morphed into something akin to hurt and that made Taehyung step back, getting a reality check himself.
He didn’t want to think about whatever was happening around him. He didn’t want to think about how he had been reacting –
But who is he kidding? It’s impossible, for Jeongguk has never escaped his thoughts in the past three years.
And yet he was left with nothing.
He was left crying on his knees.
With a ring, which was exactly the size of Jeongguk’s ring finger, begging to not be left alone.
But how long could he have resisted Taehyung’s charms?
His love for Jeongguk only grew in the past three years. Despite their seven year age gap, both of them were understanding of each other’s wants +
Before Jeongguk came into his life, Taehyung really didn’t believe in love. He always thought it’s a distraction for people who want to escape the harsh reality of life, +
The police officer fundamentally changed his life, his views on love.
For the best, that is.
The younger had kissed his knuckles, and he spoke a few words that made him understand what love is.
Knowing that Jeongguk is the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with, when he sees a jewelry store in passing; Taehyung doesn’t hesitate to step in and buy a ring for his boyfr – no future fiancé and /future/ future husband.
The younger verbalizes the sentiment way too often, it’s endearing.
He feels it every time he wakes up with kisses being peppered on his face.
His happiness comprises eight letters and looks exactly like Taehyung.
He doesn’t even know why he bought it to the restaurant. Tarhyung has nothing prepared, no words, no lightning –
Taehyung's stupor breaks, he smiles seeing the pout on Jeongguk’s face, “Sorry, I got zoned out.”
“What would you do without me?” Jeongguk sighs, annoyed.
The mob boss hides his fond smile behind the rim of his wine glass, “I’ll lose myself or probably /d!e/.”
“I only speak the truth, my love,”
The police officer poked his cheek with his tongue, “I forbid you to talk about anything related to de@th.”
He pretended to not see the light pink dusting Jeongguk’s cheeks and resumed eating.
The velvet box felt heavy in his pocket, as if it was ready to come out of his pocket any minute.
“Why are your palms sweaty?”
Jeongguk gave him a confused look, “Are you alright? Should we go home? You look sick –”
The couple walked towards the gazebo while Taehyung was trying to form words in his head. There was a yellow lamp in the middle of the gazebo, which gave an aesthetic look to the sitting area inside it.
His boyfriend raised a brow at him. The night breeze swept his hair, giving him an angelic look as he smiled softly at Taehyung.
Jeongguk stepped closer to him, “I love you more.”
The younger’s small smile withered, with his features twisting into a serious expression instead.
“Tae – I’m,” he heard Jeongguk sob, “/I can’t/.”
“No, no I can’t get married to you, hyung,” Jeongguk raised his voice.
He saw Jeongguk running a hand over his face while his tears didn’t stop rolling down his cheeks.
Taehyung shook his head, trying to muster a smile, “They can’t do anything to me, Guk. I’ve been invincible for years.”
Instead of stepping closer to the younger, he drops on his knees right where he is standing.
Jeongguk’s voice was sharp as he cut him off, “Love isn’t always enough.”
The mob boss looked up to see a veil of indifference on Jeongguk’s face.
Taehyung snorted, wiping his under eye, “Because I’m not w-worth fighting for. Am I?”
However, that day was the first time he felt like he had reached hell already.
The heels of his palms dig in his eyes as he tries to stop his thought process from going haywire. It’s always when he’s done with work that thoughts about Taehyung flood his mind.
Love is always about the simple things.
It’s how Taehyung would always remind him to charge his phone before he gives into the slumber or how he makes sure to stock the refrigerator with lemon kombucha because it’s Jeongguk’s favorite.
He can’t even begin to think about how he felt when Taehyung proposed to him.
Slowly maybe, but the younger fell for the mob boss too, much much harder than Taehyung though.
It has been a diabolical experience for the officer to see everyone around him working hard to get any intel on Taehyung while he himself was the biggest intel, working among them.
But working as a police officer, one way or the other he’d get to know about it.
The screen flashes with an unknown number as he takes the device out of his pocket. He frowns, contemplating for some moments before accepting the call.
“Hello?”
A gruff voice reaches his ears.
“Yes?”
He hears a throat clearing, “I have important intel on the drυg cartels of Choi Sangtae.”
Jeongguk looked in the rear view mirror out of instinct, “He’s de@d though.”
The officer sighed, “Who’s leading it? Someone from the clan –”
“I’ll text you the address, meet me there.”
He hears the beep as the man hangs up.
Jeongguk pinches the bridge of his nose. It’s not out of the blue to receive a call like this, but it is definitely surprising that the caller knew the real name of the Choi clan’s head.
His phone pings with a text, and Jeongguk taps on the notification immediately.
Jeongguk lets his head fall on the steering wheel in exasperation, “Fυck this.”
“Here goes nothing,” the officer murmurs to himself, adding the location in his GPS.
Jeongguk obtains his leather jacket from the backseat. Discarding the gun holster, he tucks his gun at the back of his belt, wearing his jacket so that it conceals the weapon.
The door opens to reveal a blond man, he’s wearing a white button up with black pants. He raises his eyebrows at Jeongguk, “Officer Jeon?”
“Give me a second,” the man says, opening his phone. Jeongguk stiffens, only to see him turning on his flash to see the officer.
“Please come in –”
The blond takes a step closer to him, and the officer’s whole frame tenses.
“Grab him.”
The officer grunts, his heart in his throat as they push him inside.
“Your face is familiar, but I cannot recall where I saw you,” he hears the man tsk disapprovingly.
The blond turns around to inspect his features, “Check him for we@pons.”
“Wait!”
The hands on his legs halt.
“No fυcking way,” he stares at the officer before tapping on his phone hurriedly.
“You’re V’s boyfriend, aren’t you?”
Jeongguk’s heart sinks in his chest, his eyes widen on their own accord, unable to contain how shocked he’s feeling.
The blonde smirks, “I have hit the fucking jackpot today,” he sneers, cutting him off.
“Knock him out, boys. We’re going to have Satan on his knees today.”
“The phone number in Jaejun’s call log went active a few minutes ago,” his right hand man cuts him off in urgency.
Taehyung stills, “Can you trace it?”
He follows Namjoon to his work space, closing the door behind him. He sits on his chair, opening Jaejun’s phone and his own laptop.
Namjoon sighed in reply, “Nah, he was smart with it.”
Taehyung leaned against the wall, staring at Namjoon typing on his laptop.
“Jaejun’s phone is ringing.”
He received a nod of Namjoon’s head, “Yes, yes it is.”
The mob boss accepts the call, putting it on speaker.
Taehyung’s angry question receives a chuckle from the other side.
“As welcoming as always, V.”
His blood boils at the man’s cool tone.
“I can give you a hint?” He giggles, “Your hands are stained with my appa’s blo0d,” the happy tone of his voice takes a one-eighty turn.
Taehyung’s a little intimidated, he’d give the guy some credit.
When the phone vibrates with a notification, the mob boss clicks on it impatiently.
His throat constricts.
It’s his –
It’s Jeongguk.
“Make sure to never forget my name,” he hears a growl from the line, “It’s /Choi Sungmin/, bast@rd.”
It’s after a few moments of stupefaction that Taehyung gathers his wits. There’s another text, with the address written.
It’s only now when Jeongguk has landed himself in danger, he remembers how it feels to be scared.
Scared of losing his precious one forever.
He really hopes the same.
His life will lose its purpose, as will his body lose its heart.
The door opens to reveal a blond mop of hair, its only when the man steps in light, the mob boss realizes who he is.
But his biggest weapon is inside, tied to a chair. Big enough for him to make Taehyung submit.
God, his chest burns at the reminder.
The men move aside, and the sight makes the air escape Taehyung’s lungs.
The injuries don’t look fatal on the outside but even a scratch on his little one is enough to piss him off
Sungmin laughs, clicking his fingers to see the men pointing their guns at Jeongguk, “Then why did you come here? /Leave/, if you don’t give a fuck.”
“Tae – Tae, stop.”
In that moment of weakness, Taehyung’s stupor is broken by a kick delivered to his ribs. The mob boss grunts, as his back makes contact with the ground.
Taehyung kneels in front of Jeongguk, untying his hands and feet, with a quiver in his fingers.
His eyes burn seeing how Jeongguk winces.
Hearing their resounding footsteps, he helps Jeongguk to raise himself on his feet.
The younger nodded, his eyes roaming over Taehyung’s face as if he was taking him in, drinking up his presence like he was starved too.
Taehyung is about to retort, when he hears the door opening again.
The mob boss has reached his limit for today, “Who the fuck –”
“Officer Jeon?”
Taehyung walks closer to the man, who’s probably Jeongguk’s supervisor, he sees the name ‘Jung Haein’ from the badge on his breast pocket.
There’s silence for a moment, as the mob boss thinks whether to kill Jeongguk’s supervisor or not.
“He’s V, sir.”
He feels frozen, as if a bucket of ice water was poured on him.
Must he die, at least he has the privilege to have Jeongguk, /his precious/ as the last person he sees.
Taehyung closes his eyes, an ‘I love you’ lying at the tip of his tongue, but the words choke him instead.
Closing them again, he takes a deep breath.
A gunshot echoes among the walls of the godown.
And he waits for de@th to take him.
It feels like phantom hands are choking him as he sees how Taehyung surrenders to him. He doesn’t want to feel this pain, he doesn’t want to see the man he loves proving that his love /is enough/.
He uses Taehyung’s gun and pulls the trigger.
Since he fires straight at his heart, his supervisor dies immediately.
He softens seeing silent tears streaming down the elder’s face, but he sports a faint smile, “It’s okay, my love. I would have gladly di –”
Cupping Taehyung’s cheeks, he pressed kisses over Taehyung’s tears, making sure to peck his forehead, eyelids, and nose. He murmurs ‘I’m sorry’ every time his lips touch Taehyung’s skin.
His supervisor was a good person, and didn’t deserve to be killed at all. But Jeongguk had to make a choice and he’s selfish.
“Call Namjoon and some of your men, tell them to bring the bodies back. Tell him to bring stuff to burn a place.”
“Give me your locket, Tae.”
Taehyung unlocks the locket, with the V- shaped pendant hanging from the it and hands him the same.
Taehyung nods, “I could have killed him myself, though.”
“You wanted to stain your hands with blood because you love me?” Taehyung asks, as if he can’t believe it.
“Because I can never stop loving you. And I will choose you every time.” Jeongguk agrees, with a wide grin on his face.
Jeongguk nods instantly, “Is there anything else we should leave?”
“Both of your guns,” he replies, “If you plan on fleeing then don’t go home, Jeongguk and your car has to stay here.”
“Joon, how long will it take to get a fake passport for Guk?”
Namjoon tilts his head, smiling at their joined hands, “Give me two days, love birds.”
Not from wounds, but from the permanent smile on his face.
Jeongguk giggles, splattering the black paint over Taehyung’s pristine white shirt.
“You are at fault for ignoring your hot muscular husband.”
Taehyung’s hands slide to Jeongguk’s ass, “And what is my punishment?”
Jeongguk climbs out of his lap, running away after speaking his threat. Taehyung feels appalled, he stands up too, “What about fucking seven days a week, huh? Every hour, every minute my ass.”
Taehyung chases him, “And you like it.”
Their game comes to an end, when Taehyung successfully catches Jeongguk, trapping him against the kitchen counter, “You lose.”
And maybe they both won together.
