Clone Robotics is a humanoid robot startup that flies under everyone's radar; they have a uniquely innovative approach to the robot's body.

The Poland-based company, founded in Nov 2021, is designing a human-like musculoskeletal body using hydraulic tendon muscles.

Since this is uncharted territory, they are adopting a modular development approach. They began by focusing on the most challenging yet critical component: the hands.

The arm, which includes the full forearm and palm, is 21 inches long and weighs only 1.6 lb.

The hand has 37 muscles and 24 degrees of freedom, which allows it to grab almost everything that a human hand can.

Each artificial muscle is like a tube-shaped balloon that stretches and contracts through the controlled injection and release of liquid. A single 11-inch muscle can contract by up to 27% with a 1 kg (2.2 lb) load.

Next, they're leveraging musculoskeletal technology to develop an artificial human torso. The Clone Torso will possess a rigid spine, an actuated neck, and complete the two fully actuated arms from shoulder to fingertips. We're yet to see a demo of the torso.

All of this is intriguing, but what about automation?

The company intends to develop the robot's brain. They have developed a VR-based teleoperation system which can be used for collecting training data.

Crunchbase lists one seed funding round. The company has been quiet in recent months. Their last demo was a year ago. 5 months back, they announced forming an AI team for robot's general intelligence.

I hope @clonerobotics updates us more frequently. A new demo is long overdue.
