A new study on Roman DNA from the University of Palma has confirmed what earlier papers such as Antonio et al (2019) found: that the Roman Republic was built by native Italians, but that Imperial Rome was swamped with migrants from Anatolia and the Levant. Links below

Here you can read my summary of the 2019 paper on Roman DNA which had similar results. It also shows that Italy became more genetically European again after the fall of the Roman Empire.
