🌟 Star Light, Star Bright | North Star!Katsuki, fluff, possibly...

---
The first thing he sees is nothing at all.
Pure darkness.
And then he opens his eyes, and he is dazzled by the lights.
He's crouched, somehow sitting in the void.
He spots a figure walking away from him, old and frail, glowing soft, white. Comforting but fading away.
He scrambles to his feet, but the figure doesn't look back, its light fading away into nothing.
He was alone again, and he started to breathe fast.
He brought his hands to his face and found that they were glowing that same soft white.
He put his face in his hands and closed his eyes, and found that now, even though his first moment had been in darkness...
"Child," a voice said, deep and echoing, startling him into looking up.
A new figure stood before him. This figure had a long, pointed beard and a wizened face, with that same soft glow.
A quiet chuckle. "I am Thuban. It is a pleasure to meet you, child of Polaris." The older man extended a hand to help him up.
He reached out hesitantly and took it."Wait, who now? What am I, anyways? Who was that?"
The child huffed, tapping his foot. "Come on, old man, /tell mee/!" He glowered up at Thuban impatiently.
But, he went silent.
And finally, Thuban spoke.
"Wow," the boy whispered, his eyes shining. "And who left?"
"That was the last spirit of Polaris. It was his time, and you were born to replace him." Thuban replied.
"That's the name of your star. You may take whatever name you so wish. The question is...who do you wish to be?" Thuban asked, tilting his head slightly to one side+
"The best," the boy replied immediately. He had no idea where it had come from, but somehow he knew it was the truth.
Thuban laughed aloud at that. "Such a spunky and bright young starchild you are. Perhaps the name..." Thuban considered.
"...Katsuki. Victorious, is its meaning. Superior, as well, in Japanese," Thuban said.
The young star spirit considered, and then Katsuki smiled. "I like that name," he said.
Katsuki grinned. "So what's my purpose? What do I have to be the best at?" he asked eagerly.
Katsuki squinted and could make out a faint blue pinprick. "Yeah...?" he said, confused.
"Close your eyes." Thuban commanded.
"Picture what you saw."
Katsuki thought about the blue pinprick in the blackness. "Mhm."
Katsuki strained his ears, and suddenly was hit with a wall of sound, of whispers, all saying one thing:
First star I see tonight
I wish I may, I wish I might
Have this wish I wish tonight"
So many different languages, but somehow Katsuki could understand them.
All begging for the same thing: a wish.
"What, grant what they want?" Katsuki asked.
"Well, of a sort. You, as the pole star, can only guide humans towards what the wish for. You cannot grant wishes like I can," Thuban replied.
"Ah, but you will come to love your duty. Pick a guiding wish, child, and grant it." Thuban said.
Katsuki focused hard on the voices, and soon...heard a youthful one, just like his.
And as Katsuki picked it out from the others, suddenly in his mind's eye he could see a boy, looking out a window with something Katsuki somehow knew was called a telescope.
And he looked up at Katsuki with awe.
As he should.
He paused. "...Where's Betelgeuse?" he asked in a small voice.
Thuban chuckled and pointed at a figure in the distance. "That there is Betelgeuse. Just point, and will it to be so, and your wishes will find what he seeks."
He was so far away Katsuki could barely make it out, but he scoffed and turned away, his cheeks heating.
He grinned. "You're welcome!"
But the boy didn't hear him.
Thuban chuckled. "You're too far for that, child. Earth is quite a distance away."
