I asked my boyfriend for one week of being single because there was someone else I wanted to sleep with.

I didn't tell him that part.

I told him I felt trapped and needed to know what being alone felt like before we got married.

He was quiet for a long time.

Then he said, “Okay. One week.”

I thought he'd fight me.

Instead, he took off the bracelet I'd given him and left it on the table.

I spent the first two days with the guy I'd been thinking about.

We kissed.

We slept together.

And honestly, it wasn't what I'd imagined.

By Thursday, I missed my boyfriend so badly that I almost called him.

Then I saw a picture of him at dinner with another woman.

She was wearing his hoodie.

I called immediately.

He answered and said, “We're on a break, remember?”

I asked who she was.

He said, “Someone I'm getting to know.”

I told him he wasn't supposed to actually move on.

He laughed.

“You asked what being single felt like. I figured I should find out too.”

I admitted what I'd done during the break.

He wasn't even angry.
