I really believe two things can be true here: the vast majority of trans people would willingly admit that sports is a complex issue, but we are also understandably paranoid about conceding anything because most people simply use it as a Trojan Horse for broad-scale bans/bigotry
James Talarico on trans: "I oppose trans athletes playing in girls' sports if it endangers safety or fairness"

If trans people had confidence or trust that the people in charge would ultimately uphold our rights and stand up for us, I think we’d be way more able to have nuanced discussions about practical guidelines for things like sports. but nobody has that trust, and for good reason!

still, I have found that at least on a person-to-person level, we ultimately make our case better by acknowledging that the practicalities of these things can be complex. that doesn’t mean conceding your rights—but people trust people who are capable of some nuance!
