Did Abu Hurayra forget a verse of the Qur'an?
Once he heard the Prophet use the word "sikkin" (knife🔪) in a story. He said that this was the 1st time he heard this word, as his tribe's dialect used a different one "mudya".

The Hadith expert al-Damamini (d. 1424) noted that Abu Hurayra should've known the word as he converted in the Medinan period & Surat Yusuf is Meccan. He proposed that Abu Hurayra maybe forgot that verse or hadn't heard it, when he stated his ignorance of the word [2/3]

A different solution to this problem is found in a report recorded by the Maliki scholar al-'Utbi (d. 869). There Abu Hurayra claimed that he 1st heard the word sikkin🔪 in Surat Yusuf.
