Most people are looking for a single service that “automates their business.”

But there is no such tool.

A working system always consists of several layers:

Research → Leads → Content → Sales → Support → Automation → Analytics → Security

I've compiled a list of 30 open-source repositories that can be used to build these layers without being tied to a single expensive SaaS solution.

This isn't a "set everything up" list. Choose one process that's already taking up your time, and build a minimal stack of 3–5 tools around it.

All of the projects listed below were checked on GitHub on August 19, 2026: each has more than 5,000 stars. Open source does not mean “free forever”: hosting, model APIs, proxies, and support may still cost money.

1. Market Research and Analysis

1.GPT Researcher - ★29 041

A tool for multi-step web research. It collects sources on a given topic and organizes the results into a report.

Plan: Once a week, gather information on competitors’ changes, new tools in the niche, or content topics. It’s always a good idea to review the final report: the agency may have made mistakes in its sources or conclusions.

  • Firecrawl - ★169 454
  • Converts websites and documentation into Markdown or structured data suitable for LLMs.

Scenario: Download a competitor's web pages, knowledge base, or service catalog and send them to an agent for analysis. Respect the robots.txt file, the site's rules, and API restrictions.

  • Khoj - ★36 558
  • A self-hosted "second brain" for searching PDFs, Markdown, notes, and connected sources.

Scenario:The team can find policies, meeting minutes, and past decisions more quickly without having to manually search through folders.

  • Search engine - ★35 730
  • A private metasearch engine that aggregates results from multiple search engines.

Scenario:A separate search layer for a research agent when greater control over queries and data is needed.

    2. Lead Generation and Data Collection

  • Browser Use - ★109 739
  • It allows the agent to work with a real browser: open pages, navigate through the interface, and extract data.

Scenario: Collect public data on companies from directories that do not have a convenient API. Do not use this to bypass authorization, CAPTCHAs, or platform rules.

  • Crawl for AI - ★78 677
  • A crawler that prepares web pages for RAG and AI analysis.

Scenario:Compile a list of websites in the niche, extract descriptions of their services, and enter the data into a spreadsheet for initial screening.

  • ScrapeGraphAI - ★29 729
  • It allows you to describe the desired fields in plain language and obtain a data structure without having to manually configure selectors on each page.

Script:Search websites for the company name, contact information, services, and social media accounts. The result must be validated: the LLM may mix up the fields.

  • Crawlee - ★25 435
  • A library for reliable web crawling with queues, retries, sessions, and proxy configuration.

Scenario:Regular collection of publicly available data when a one-time script can no longer handle the volume.

    3. Content and Media

  • ComfyUI - ★128 421
  • A Node-based interface for generating and editing images and videos using diffusion models.

Scenario: to create a reusable pipeline for banners and visuals in a consistent style, rather than generating each asset from scratch.

  • Stable Diffusion WebUI - ★164 583
  • A local Stable Diffusion interface with a wide range of extensions and generation controls.

Scenario: Create mockups for landing pages, articles, and ads. Check the license for each specific model and the right to use the result commercially.

  • Cocky TTS - ★45 916
  • Open-source tools for speech synthesis and working with voice models.

Script: Voice-over for training, a demo, or an internal assistant. The rights to specific weightings and voices may differ from the code license.

  • Money Printer Turbo - ★109 833
  • A project for creating short vertical videos using a script, voice-over, subtitles, and visual footage.

Scenario:Speed up the creation of the first draft of Reels or Shorts. Human editing and fact-checking are still required before publication.

    4. Sales and Transactions

  • Twenty - ★55 125
  • Open-source CRM for leads, companies, and interaction history.

Workflow:A new lead from the form is added to the CRM; the agent drafts a message, and the manager approves and sends it.

  • Cal.com - ★47 801
  • An appointment scheduling platform with webhooks and customization options.

Script:After qualifying a lead, the bot suggests a suitable time slot and schedules a meeting without exchanging ten messages.

  • Documenso - ★14 613
  • A platform for preparing and signing documents.

Procedure:After agreeing on the terms, generate a contract using the template and send it for signature. The legal validity and requirements of each specific country must be verified separately.

    5. Support and In-App Assistants

  • Dify - ★152 902
  • A builder for LLM applications, RAG pipelines, and agent-based workflows.

Scenario: The bot responds based on the product's knowledge base, cites sources, and forwards non-standard questions to a human. RAG reduces the risk of fabricated answers, but does not eliminate it entirely.

  • Chatwoot - ★35 981
  • Omnichannel support center for the website, email, and messaging apps.

Scenario: Consolidate incoming inquiries, provide the AI with a set of default responses, and leave controversial cases to a human.

  • Open WebUI - ★149 236
  • A multi-user interface for on-premises and cloud-based models with roles and knowledge integration.

Scenario:A dedicated space for the team, instead of a jumble of personal chats with different subscribers.

  • Rasa - ★21 296
  • A framework for conversational systems where clear scenario logic is essential.

Scenario: a bot for order status, returns, or plan changes, where you can't rely solely on an LLM's free-form response.

    6. Automation and Orchestration

  • n8n - ★201 179
  • Visual automation with integrations, AI nodes, webhooks, and self-hosting.

    Workflow:Lead → Verification → CRM → Message Draft → Manual Approval → Telegram Notification.

  • Activepieces - ★23 890
  • A lightweight, open-source alternative to Zapier and Make for internal processes.

Scenario:Automate small, repetitive tasks without complex infrastructure.

  • CrewAI - ★57 311
  • A framework for distributing tasks among multiple agents with different roles.

Workflow: The researcher gathers facts —> the author writes a draft —> the reviewer checks it against a checklist. Multi-agent systems are only necessary for tasks that truly benefit from a division of roles.

  • MCP Reference Servers - ★89 685
  • Model Context Protocol reference servers for files, GitHub, databases, and other tools.

Scenario:Grant Claude Code controlled access to the desired service instead of sharing secrets or manually copying data.

    7. Analytics and Data Processing

  • PostHog - ★37 773
  • Product Analytics: Events, Funnels, Session Records, Experiments, and Working with LLM Features.

Scenario: to understand at which step users drop out of the onboarding process or where the AI feature is underperforming.

  • Metabase - ★48 831
  • A BI tool for dashboards and data queries.

Scenario:A single screen displaying revenue, lead conversion, customer acquisition cost, and process statuses.

  • MindsDB - ★39 606
  • A platform that connects databases, models, and AI applications.

Scenario:Add classification, forecasting, or LLM analysis to data without having to manually transfer it between services.

  • Unstructured - ★15 326
  • Extracts text and structure from PDFs, scans, Office files, spreadsheets, and other documents.

Scenario: Prepare contracts, invoices, and internal documents for RAG or automated processing.

    8. Safety, Quality, and Cost Control

  • Small Language Model - ★56 746
  • A unified gateway for working with various LLMs via an OpenAI-compatible format.

Scenario: Set budget limits, switch to a backup model in case of a failure, and avoid having to rewrite the application when changing providers.

  • AI Guardrails - ★7 300
  • A framework for validating response structures, checking fields, and processing sensitive data.

Scenario:Before creating an invoice, the agent must verify the customer, amount, currency, and verification status. This catches some errors early on, but does not replace manual approval.

    30.Promptfoo - ★24 373

A tool for automatically testing prompts, models, and protections against prompt injection.

Scenario: Run a set of complex user requests before deploying the bot to identify regressions before customers do.

    Where to Start

Don't try to set up 30 repositories over the weekend.

Choose one specific task that you do every week:

  • generate leads;
  • analyze conference calls;
  • answer common questions;
  • prepare reports;
  • create content;
  • Update the CRM.
  • Next, put together a minimal workflow, add logging, and leave critical decisions to a human.

Open source isn't magic, nor is it a free business.

It provides control over data, logic, costs, and the actions the AI is authorized to perform.

That's exactly what turns "just another AI tool" into practical automation.
