Does anyone have a book recommendation that cohesively argues:

• Muhammad (saws) existed but used material from Jewish legends and Christian sources

• that the ḥadīth are later fabrications

• what caused Muhammad (saws) to create Islam and what he gained from it

You find the first two views in virtually every piece of modern scholarship on early Islam produced in the Western academy.
The third point is not really something that most contemporary historians are interested in (too psychologizing, too positivistic).
