In Felix Steiner’s memoirs, he describes live-ammo training maneuvers for the elite SS-Deutschland in 1939, a predecessor of the Waffen-SS. Selected from top recruits and pioneers in camouflage, they moved so swiftly that Hitler, there to watch, couldn’t spot them through his binoculars. After 20 minutes, he asked, “When is the regiment attacking?” Steiner replied, “Mein Führer, they’ve already begun.” Kek
