🧵A thread which debunks the claim made by many islamophobes which cite a few verses as a "proof" that islam is violent.
The commonly refered verses are:
2:191, 4:34, 5:51, 8:12, 9:5, 9:14, 9:29, 25:52, 47:4
we will insha'allah refute each of them in the thread below,

🛡️Lets first examine the war verses which include :
2:191, 8:12, 9:5, 9:14, 9:29, 47:4
here are the war verses clarified below :
(verses written in brackets are cited in pics in same order)

1️⃣(2:191) , this verse is commonly cited, however if one only reads the verse before it (2:190) which states "fight those who fight you but do not overstep the limits", it becomes clear that this verse is applicable to the combatants only not every disbeliever.

2️⃣(8:12) by reading the verse it is evident that it is mentioning a past event. This verse talks about hostile makkans, in the battle of badar, who had commited hineous crimes towards muslims (physical torture, persecution, killing of women etc) hence it applies only to them.

3️⃣(9:5) this verse at first seems as if its a direct call to kill all idolaters/disbelievers but if you read the next verse (9:6) it clearly makes an exception for the those idolaters who seek peace.

4️⃣(9:14) this verse is from the same chapter we discussed, now as already mentioned an exception has been made for those who seek protection, additionaly if you read the 4th verse of same chapter, it becomes clear that it is directed towards those who broke the treaty, not all

5️⃣(9:29) this is also a commonly cited verse but again one has to interpret this in the light of other verses of the quran such as (60:8) and (8:61) which command us to be kind towards non muslims and accept peace, therefore the fighting verse only applies if they are hostile

6️⃣(47:4) This verse is talking about events in a battle not a general command which applies during conditions of peace ( as prev mentioned) , also once the battle has ended you cannot kill anymore of the enemies but keep them captives which is allowed by the international law.

📖sometimes only a few verses solve the issue but the unwillingness to understand islam is what causes these problems to arise in the first place, remember that the general rulings of islam are towards peace and even in war the prophet issued us strict rulings :

🌷now once we have adressed the war verses lets adress the remaining ones :
(5:51), (4:34)
11
1️⃣(5:51) it is claimed that muslims arent allowed to be friends with disbelievers, but again as it is evident from the translation it only talks about protection and not friendship, also in (60:9) it is explained that only the hostile disbelievers cannot be taken as friends ...

...(60:8) explains to whom we are allowed to be friends with :

2️⃣(4:34) this verse is claimed to justify domestic violence but this verse must be understood within the broader understanding of quran where in (4:19) god commands to treat wives with fairness and not harshness, also the earliest muslims understood this verse which only.......

understood this as a light tap of maswak ( a light stick used for brushing teeth), additionaly the prophet condemned beating of the wife. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: ‘Those who beat their wives are not among the best of you..

✨I hope this thread helped you in understanding the quran in a better way, we as muslims must develop a better understanding of islam so that we dont fall into such traps which increase our doubt. May Allah increase our iman
